Yes the manual says GL5. Did not know Eagle was still making a 35' in the 90s. My input shaft seal was leaking a little, so I checked it out and replaced the seal. But time for an oil change, manual says 25K.

Eagle used the drop boxes in the 40 and 45 footers too, most of the time when the input shaft seal starts to leak the bearing are starting to go bad I always pull the shaft and replace those bearing fwiw

I did not know they ran on 40 and 45'ers. All or just some? I had the flange back on it and saw your remarks about the bearings. It seemed tight but pulled it apart and the bearings look good so back in now. Have you ever replaced the race in the housing in the bus? Not sure about getting that one out in the bus?

I always pull the box Tom, it takes time to preload the 4 bearing with shims once you get it right they last for a long time. The 01 Eagle never used a drop box all the rest of the Eagle did with the exception of a few experimental models, if the Eagle has a boogie axle you will find a drop box.
I have a friend that uses the 4000 Allison with the drop box on the transmission so he could use a standard rear axle from a truck for the gearing he needed for his series 60 in a Eagle.

FWIW some models of the Flx's used the drop box to

Thanks for the information, looks like I will be running 85/140. MCI say 25k miles. May run syn, just not sure it is worth it. That makes sense about drop box and the boogie axle, just thought it was a 35 footer thing. Clifford do you pull the drop box only or whole pumpkin w/ box?

It's easier to pull the drop box alone ,if I find metal then I pull the pumpkin also
