Hi gang,

First time posting and newb to the bus world.  I tried to search topics but didn't find anything I needed.  I'm wondering where to go to get my back-up camera looked at.  It seems to work off and on and there must be a wire going in and out but I don't know who I should even call to look at it.  The only place I can think of is Camping World and I would hate to take it there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

probably any one who assembled their own computer in the 90's or a home security system installer... :)

You can pick up a new camera pretty cheap on line, I don't know of anyone that works on them these days, its cheaper to replace it than trying to get it repaired>>>>John.

I spent $20 or less on mine and about $30 on decent cable. I installed two cameras. One looks out from on top of the back bumper and one looks down from the roof so I can see exactly how close I am to things.

Not all is lost.  If your camera is like mine, it has a short cable that plugs into the extension cable that in turn plugs into the monitor.  Take one of the cameras off, and plug it into the monitor and see if it solves your problem.  That will eliminate one possible problem.

This is pretty much the state of cameras today. Cheaper to replace than repair, just make sure like Geoff said, plug the camera in directly and see if it's a cable problem. If not, spend 10 to 20 bucks to buy a new camera. If you have to string a new cable, that can be much trickier, but a lot of fun  ???

I think I should have clarified.  It's the monitor that is sometimes working sometimes not.  All the cameras work (when the monitor works)

I'm going to take the bus out in 2 weeks so I'm actually expecting it to work since it's so off and on.

Branderson, monitors are just that, monitors. I have a 9" digital TV that I mounted over the hole where the original monitor sat. It's color and a much larger screen and it only cost me $60. at Bi-Mart a couple years back. In a pinch, you can use a computer monitor (flat screen) or just about anything that you can plug a camera into and set in front of you. I wouldn't recommend a large screen TV on your dash, though.
Good luck. Maybe it's just a loose hot wire or lead.

Thought I would update y'all.  Turns out there was an inline fuse that went to the monitor.  Changed that and everything was fine.  Thank god for my uncle b/c I would have never known where to look for that wire.  He sold me the bus and it's great to be able to pick his brain.

Thanks for the replies!

My old Intec 9300 monitor went south and they want around $1000 plus shipping for a new monitor/display, controller and remote to plug in to my old black and white camera. Add another $650 for a color camera. They will hook up and already have cable run from original converter back in 1991. Can't run another cable . Think I will just drag the wheels off the ford pick up for that price. Wonder if the wireless will work though stainless.

For $250 you can get a complete Rear View Safety system  -  color camera with microphone and night LEDs, 7" color monitor with speaker, cables, multiplexer box, everything.   I bought mine when Costco had them on sale for $199, and it works great.   For that price it's hardly worth trying to fix things.

I purchased mine from them also. Works great and monitor has two possible additional camera inputs. I purchased a cheap license plate camera and used it for hitching the trailer first time, everytime. For such a cheap camera, it works great. Monitor is about 8 inches diagonal and about 1 inch thick. Be careful on wireless option, as there have been many unsatisfactory results with poor or intermittent signal, especially when you get over 30 ft.yrmv.

Reason for the wireless solution is I don't think I could ever get another cable though the bus. Bottom is solid sprayed foam insulation. Guess I will go back to the high dollar Intec deal as my coach already has the cable for it and it's a direct plug in.

For the amount you'd save by buying a new RVS system, it would be worth making pigtail adapters for each end of your existing cable to plug into the RVS camera and multiplexer box.   A few dollars' worth of cable and connectors, then you'd be able to install without a whole new cable.   (Getting my cable from the wiring chase above the side windows into the rear cap was a royal PITA, but I'll never have to touch it again.)

I have a wireless camera on Our 102a3 mci , works great and came with a second camera with magnetic base that works on back of toad . I have mine wired into tail lights to act as rear view mirror ,no drafting behind the bus unseen.
