Hi all!

First, the easy stuff: I've gotten the first three layers of fireproof/insulation in the floor of the engine/bedroom area. I have one more layer that goes under the 1/8 aluminum sheet...then goes the plywood and a vapor barrier.

I am using asphalt based fabric and cement on the interior ceiling joints (more on that to come...) because it seems like the same material that was installed before.

Question:
Can I use the asphalt cement on the floor frame between the painted frame members and the final insulation/aluminum sheet?
I'm assuming they used it as a separator and glue between two different metals. Thoughts?

On a more interesting note...
I have pulled down the ceiling and removed the crumbling (read too hot) 44-year-old fiberglass on one side in the rear. I was THRILLED to find a small AC leak had done no real damage, and I'm re-sealing every joint and opening.
Whoever installed the skin in place of windows didn't really insulate the inside. There was one sheet of pink foam barely glued to the skin...growing a small bit of mold from condensation. But there isn't any rust...thankfully.

Question #2: I was thinking about painting a coat of rubber to the interior ceiling panels and side walls before I add the insulation. Thoughts?

I did manage to break a window (needs to be replaced anyway :) but I also found buried under that old fiberglass in the ceiling is the most ingenious wire routing system, and my unit number has nearly twice the roof support of later units. I suppose that's the silver lining of this job. :)

Thanks for your thoughts. As always, they are appreciated.

Hi daddysgirl, Gary at B&B in LV, covered my windows with an aluminium sheet and put 1" of foiled closed cell foam, not styrofoam. Then the 3/4" finished plywood, for the bathroom/kitchen area,  and i don't feel any heat/cold transference in that area, lvmci...

Thanks!

I am using that double sided wrap as the first/second and the fourth layer in my fireproof/airtight insulation scheme on the floor, as well as both layers everywhere else.

I found some of the butyl mastic that was used on the floor beams to seal the 1/8" aluminum to the floor. I'm almost finished with the jumpseat and the floor over the engine. I'll be so satisfied to finish that one area...progress! There's nothing like it, no matter how small :)
