I think the ad states in short his daughter is influencing his decision.

I have known a ton of people over the years who spoke of grand plans for a restoration project and spent years and years talking of the plans but taking no action.  All the while the candidate vehicle deteriorated in the weather to worthless status.  Talk is great, but action speaks louder.

Clifford is right, I know of probably twenty 4501 projects for sale at all times. Bot those are almost all unfinished motorhomes. As for value, the two in Oregon have decent value for those looking to do stock restoration. 4501 seats are unique to that model. If all the folks that threw away seats to attempt a conversion years back would have only known what they were throwing away! Parts are valuable. There is very limited interest in doing original restorations, but it is gaining more participation, (and value) than they ever used to.

Interesting statement.  I agree as well as disagree.  I have collected over the years probably the largest stash of Mazda Rotary pickup parts in existence.  They made only 15000 of them and there are probably only a few thousand trucks left at best.  The parts are genuinely unique to the trucks as well. When I quote the price to many, they balk for a few weeks/months or complain.  They don't seem to care about my time, labor, storage space or efforts to preserve precious parts for those in need just like themselves.  Parts are valuable, but many don't recognize that value until its too late unfortunately.

I agree about the price of parts vs. your labor etc. No offense, not be a smart @$# here, but Scenicruiser parts (in my opinion) would be in much higher demand (per capita) than Mazda truck parts. Maybe I am wrong? With only 230 plus or minus 4501s left, and everyone is looking for the same parts, especially the hard to find stuff. Curved glass (19 pieces in a 4501), seats, parcel racks, restroom parts. For the past several years, my theory has been, when you find parts for sale (no matter where), you better go get them. I have made the mistake of passing on stuff (not bus, but old car), thinking I could find it cheaper, then realize, no can find at any price! Take care

In my opinion, if a Scenicruiser runs good & is usable, it is worth at least $15k, It will cost more in time & parts to get most non-runners to that condition.

I have sold parts & given parts away.
My experience has been that most of the parts I gave away were wasted - those projects were eventually scrapped & they disappeared.

The people who were willing to spend the money on parts are still around.

Very few people understand the real value of original parts. Amazing how many don't know the difference in used & used up.  

I must add that some of the best people I have ever met are bus nuts - especially PD-4501 owners.

No offense taken Tom.  My point was simply that rare parts are just that rare. Regardless if it is a Scenic or a vintage rotary.  People who favor low production vehicles always in time will face a parts shortages.  It is up to the enthusiasts of these vehicles who ultimately bear the responsibility to gather, store, share and protect the parts their team needs.  Nobody else really cares. The only solution is to hope that those who have the room and are willing to make the effort, take on the expense of storage of the donor vehicles until the parts are salvaged for those in the need. Is there any other choice?
