You quite often get news stories here about foreign (usually Eastern European) truck drivers that have done something silly or dangerous on UK roads because they didn't understand the rules. There was one just the other day about a guy who was parked on the hard shoulder of the motorway (which is illegal) and was busily preparing a meal for himself - but the story actually received a positive reaction because they showed the meal he was preparing and it was clearly very healthy with lots of salad and freshly-chopped vegetables etc.

Just not a good idea to be doing that with four lanes of high speed traffic streaming-past

A shameless plug for my business - visit www.magazineexchange.co.uk for back issue magazines - thousands of titles covering cars, motorbikes, aircraft, railways, boats, modelling etc. You'll find lots of interest, although not much covering American buses sadly.

Well there you go. He had the right idea but wrong location. Couldn't bring himself to exit the freeway and make his dinner safely.

"safety" has many meanings...

Highway exits expose you to the unsavory locals in ways that the shoulder of the road does not?

The Authorities may take exception to cooking in the parking lot in a rest area?

Poor guy can't get a break!

happy coaching!

Perhaps the local authorities need to put the criminal pukes and smelly weirdo's in prisons and institutions respectively. Instead, they go after truck drivers that want to eat a sandwich in their truck. That driver was careless for doing that but perhaps he would have felt safer if the area off the freeway was free from bad people. Just a bit of abstract on my part.
