turbo relocation on 6v92

I am looking for some ideas on 1957 gm 4104.

This was my fathers toy and play he did
It now has a 6v92 with 730 Allison automatic instead of straight 6 /4 speed manual.
anyway, when the engine was installed the turbo was a problem as it extended in to the bedroom area, instead of relocating the turbo they cut out the firewall . this is not good as there isn't space available.
I would like to change that. anyone have parts?

Is there a stainless steel or fiberglass residing kit out there or has anyone had success in polishing the sides?
I would like to install more modern led headlights
RV furniture

Any ideas would help

Is that a top mounted turbo ? if so I have a extra low profile air intake horn the rest you custom make using the existing T connection on the engine ,it is all 2-1/2 inch pipe any muffler shop can make the pipes.You need to plug the oil supply and return on the blower and feed and return from the engine oil galley with hoses

I don't understand if they cut the firewall to make room for the turbo yet you say there isn't room for the turbo??

It would seem if it is already installed this way what you need is a removable heat resistant cover/dog house. Then there is the aluminum sides. If the aluminum isn't all jacked up it can be polished. I have seen painted 4104s and they didn't look good. There used to be place in Florida that was selling new aluminum but that was 15 years ago

The turbo on my 04 is mounted over the 730 with the exhaust going down and out the passenger side.

Might be because the 6v92 is on a 15 degree instead of the laid down ones I have saw.

That mounting behind the motor over the trans would be perfect. The turbo is mounted on the right side sticking into the bedroom which messes up my pillow/bed area. As all know there isn't a ton of room to begin with and relocating the bathroom isn't an option.

The 6v I have is a mid 80's just before electronic .

Anybody have the parts to move the turbo?

The pipes and the mount was hand fabricated from standard parts.

Will try to get a picture for you. might have to email it to you.

You can mount a turbo just about anywhere close to the engine. Since the oil supply is under pressure, that isn't a problem. The only real rule you have to follow is to have the turbo above the oil pan so to have drainage back to the oil pan by gravity. Plumbing from the air cleaner to the turbo, then turbo to the engine, and exhaust to and from the turbo really isn't that hard. Over the transmission is good, or over the engine where the oil bath air cleaners used to be is another good location. Good Luck, TomC

Why not reframe the bed so it is higher than the turbo with a lot of heat shield insulation under the bed. This is much easier than moving the turbo and you could back the bed closer to the rear window or whatever you have back there.

International Bus Parts (IBP) .They are still there .Talked to a gentleman there a while back .Very nice guy. If it can't be found on the net ,let me know and the next time I am at my bus I will get you a number CC was kind enough to include a complete catalog with my bus literature.

These are great ideas and certainly food for thought. In a couple weeks we will be getting the bus out. I think I will look at building bed up as this would free up space but we'll see. I also will be calling IBP about stainless sides and may-be advice on what I could use as replacement steering wheel
