I was thinking of substituting my dead Carpenter wiper motor with a VW Jetta motor. I'm a little puzzled by the wiring. Green and yellow have to be high and low with the body being earth.

How does it self park? Is that something to do with the 15A relay tied into the switch on my console?

I would highly recommend you NOT go this route. Find yourself a universal, easily obtainable motor. Granted it is cheap-but cheap isn't the only consideration. I changed my wipers from air to dual electric with switch control-meaning-even though there are 2 motors, the controller keeps them synchronized. Just go to most any junk yard and they will have bins fill of windshield wiper motors for cheap. Good luck, TomC

I couldn't agree more with TomC. I picked up a couple at a U-Pull-It a while back for an old Willys PU I was upgrading. $5 and it worked great. To this day I have no idea what they came off of.

Ok. I have one person saying don't use a cheap Jetta motor but not why not. I have another person that bought any old motor which could have come from a jetta. Very contradictory. It's sounding as though if I say it, it must automatically be condemned. Typical bloody forum.

Whoa buddy. Take a chill. It's all good. If you don't like someone's advice, don't take it. But that's no reason to jump all over people who are responding to your request for input.

Cheers,

John

Zephod, no one is condemning your choices or actions, we are only trying to give you options. My agreement with TomC was only to save you a few bucks, not because I have a problem with Jetta wiper motors. Sorry if it came off any different than that. I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to everything except my wife. I am always looking for ways to save a buck and lots of times the experience of people on this forum does that for me.
If you don't find my advice or anyone elses on this forum helpful, ignore it. But many of the people here are speaking from experience and are only trying to help.

We like the term - "it's all good". If anyone is having a bad day, we all hope it gets better for you sooner than later. And fwiw - have a great day...

Sorry for being grumpy. I slept about 4 hours then went out on a school run, taking a load of loud, argumentative future jailbirds to their elementary schools followed by a high school run where half the kids didn't ride. Add to that some awkward parents and unusually heavy traffic and trying to keep to time while also having to avoid the many of South Carolina's potholes and low branches. I had a challenging morning. It's ok now. I just had my between shifts nap.

The only reason I was saying a Jetta motor was because it was the cheapest out there and I can't seem to find any wreckers yards. Been keeping my eye open for them for ten years!

No worries, bro. I totally understand how that all works.

Good luck on your project!

Where in the world are you located that you can't find junk yards?
I guarantee I can find you a half a dozen in less than 2-3 days looking part time from here that will be less than 4-5 hrs drive from you!
