The connections on the batteries look pretty dirty.  ...

     Good point.  And usually when they look dirty, they're badly corroded inside the connectors and the mating surfaces have lots of non-conductive "skin" on them.  Cleaning 'em up is a must if you're going to have any chance of bringing them back.

I also work full time as an industrial electrician my fluke is over 10 yrs old and only meter I will ever use I have owned a few over 3 decades.. I also have a fluke clamp on multi meter that stays in bus . I never leave home without my electrician bag .... Navy also taught me well lol

I charged my batteries and couldn't get them over 12.5 volts. They turned the engine over sluggishly. That was all.
Today I took them out and found no dates on them at all. I put a straight edge on the ends and they're slightly rounded.
I popped into Advance Auto to buy a battery and to order a second. A few days ago a very helpful fellow found exactly the battery I needed but I wanted to try my batteries again before diving in. Today I must have had their most useless employee as he walked away when I was talking to him.
End result... I have two interstate group 31 950CCA batteries on order from the garage that replaced the oil pressure sender in my car. I have no idea what brand advance auto was selling.

Nope you have just experienced today's common parts counter jockey! If they can't get yr, make, model, engine size and auto or standard to punch in the computer and show them what you need then they have no interest in helping you. (or in most cases idea how to help you.)
See they get a base salary and then a bonus commission based on $ales they make.
And if it takes time to try and figure out what you need, then they might lose a sale to 2-3 other people while helping you.

Besides you will get better service from the little shop and Interstate than you ever would at any of the auto parts chains "corporate" stores. (NAPA's are usually individually owned and therefore you usually get good service in them)

I used to be the lowest worm on the management tier at Barnes & Noble. I couldn't believe some of the wage collectors that had been employed. Zero interest in doing the job they were paid to do. No concept of the idea that if somebody saw you doing a great job that it might result in promotion or an offer from a different company.

That's a damn good price. I got 2 31 interstate 950CCA for $329 with 2 years free replacement.

I'd looked around and the best I could see was $129 each for an unknown brand with 3 month replacement. At that rate I figured a known brand for $35 extra per battery was the better deal.
