Been reading about everyone's problems so I thought it might be good to post something positive - we are finally able to pull the trigger on new tires for the bus, since it's a 73 MC 7 Combo, that's 10 tires.  Going with12Rx22.5 Daytons on the front and Double Coin 11Rx22.5 on the rears. $3800 out the door including old tire disposal and spin balanced on the fronts.  Bus has been sitting 2 years, got it going this week and everything checked out except no heat,  since I had recently changed all the coolant hoses, I was thinking that it was air locked.  I bled the defroster core like crazy and still no heat.  Today I took it for a ride to get fuel and on the way back, I got heat!  It was definitely air locked. 

One of our excuses for it sitting for 2 years is that we have been working on moving to Maine and last month we completed building my barn that will house the bus and my workshop, we are heading up next week with the bus to put it inside for the winter, we are very fortunate to be able to get it inside, it has taken a lot of work to get to this point.  Exciting time for us!!

Now if I can just convince my wife to go to Arcadia!!!

Tell her it will be above freezing in Arcadia in January, unlike up there in Maine where the Maniacs live.  I grew up in Keene, NH so I know what the winters are like in Downeast ME after Thanksgiving and into Mud Season.  :D

Gee, I lived in Littleton up above the Franconia Notch for a while, we thought it was warm and balmy down below.  ;)

Congratulations on the move and the achievement of the bus barn, especially in the winter. You worked for it now it comes back to you... Enjoyed the positive side. Hope to see you in Arcadia!

Chessie, yes I have been checking the coolant level after each drive!

HB of CJ the bus had 12Rx22.5 all around, I just switched the rears to 11Rx22.5 same rims all around. 

I've been dreaming of Arcadia for several years but the money has been going out like water so we may wait until spring.

The bus will be in Maine for the winter but we will be in CT. 

I'll share some photos of the new bus barn shortly!

Wider rims/tires will be worse in the snow.  Wide rims are good for sand but the narrower the tires in the winter the better.  When I plowed snow for the town with a dump truck with a front and a side wing plow in NH, we frequently would remove one tire from each side of the duals to obtain more traction (Friction).  The less square inches you have on the ground surface, the more friction you generate per square inch.

Yes, that is true, thinner, taller tires (with side ribs) do better in snow, but two of them together (spaced far enough apart) do pretty well. Bet you got your road salt from International Salt Co. Terminal in Bow, NH, I operated the terminal for them in Littleton.

Gary in this case your only 1/2 correct!
Yes skinnier taller tires do better in the snow.
But this question was about 1/2" wider rim w/same sized tire.
Which only makes the tire flatter or bowed on the tread. (at least in theory!)
