Can anyone tell me where i can find the power steering fluid reservoir on a 1989 MCI 102a3. The thing is a beast to turn. What should i check other than the fluid? Thanks.

You didn't say what engine is in your bus. That would help. There will be a filter inside the reservoir. Also maybe on one of the lines, probably on the fire wall. Where are you from? One of us bus nuts close to you might be able to help you.

When your at the rear looking forward at the motor, typically the reservoir is on the back right corner of the motor on a 6v92 it may have a site glass.
Other points are the lube points at the front kingpin and other control linkages. These are only accessed after "proper" bus lift and axle raised to relieve load. Safety blocking is important here as reason for mention, because the (air lift suspension could leak down) this being the precaution and of course there's always need for wheel/tire chocks. hth

On my bus (which is very different from yours in many details so this may not apply), the most important detail is turning the front wheel stop-to-stop a few times (engine running, of course) after any work on the power steering or after adding fluid.  This purges any air in the system.  It makes a big difference on my bus when it's needed and it doesn't cost anything to try.

hi 1989, if it is an 8V92, mine is above the engine, same as Floyd described the location, for the 6V, there is a sight glass, and it is easier to access for pouring, from the interior access door, what is your name and location and engine & trans info, so we can more clearly help you, lvmci...

Hi. My names William. Found the resovoir thanks to the group. Yes its an 8v92 with a 740 ht trans. And it is low of fluid. What fluid is best and do i need to bleed the system if air has gotten into the lines or will it self bleed?  I live in West Monroe,Louisiana. Anyone else in the area? Would love to have some guidance.

Your front axle should be jacked up so your tires are off the ground a little, then turn the wheels stop to stop a few times . Add fluid after each time. do it until it comes up in the site window to the line. My fluid is ATF its Red. Check the color. If its just oil some use 10 to 40 weights oil. If you are changing or don't know whats in there it might benefit you to drain the system and ad new oil or ATF fluid so you aren't mixing unknow fluids.

William -

Now that we've saved your life, how about you helping us?

Please take a couple minutes to update your forum profile to something similar to mine below.  At least first name, home/base city/state plus coach make, model and powertrain combination will go a long way in further helping us help you.  For example, parts and service sources and even sometimes a local busnut that you didn't even know existed!

To update, simply click on the profile tab above.  When the next screen pops up, in the LH menu click on "Forum Profile Info" then follow the prompts.  Shouldn't take you more than a couple of minutes and it will go a long way to making your forum experience more enjoyable.

Re read my post. It was 10 to 40 weight not 10/40 weight. Oh well it will be fine. There are so many fluids and oil weights that work that will do it. LOL

Thanks for posting this info.  I picked up on the part number for the filter.  I can find the filter locally
now that I know what to ask for.  Can't remember when I changed it last but I am sure it has been a
long time ago. Will pick up a filter today.
                                               Thanks,   Merle.
