My mci 9 had working clearance lights for....oh about 5 months of the 6 years I owned and drove it. Never had an issue. I have tail lights headlights and turn signals. If you can't see me with those, then clearance lights sitting 12 feet up high aren't going to help you see me any better. My current 102 doesn't even have a single lamp installed yet. Coming soon but not yet.

Around here, the local pd will stop you for inoperable lights.
Don't seem to be bothered by lack of a tag though. . . .

I also question why the need for clearance lights so high up.  My bus and trailer are lit up like a Christmas tree at night.  If you can't see my vehicle at night then you need to stop driving.

Arizona big brother can stop you if any light doesn't work. They love licenses plate lights not working.

in Texas and some other states, if a license plate frame obstructs the county or other portions of the plate u can get a ticket...it is there "probable cause" excuse....

In some states, use of directional lights seems optional.  :D

I can remember back in the 60's in North Carolina when the best place to get a current licence tag was in the junk yard.  The tags weren't numbered and computers were still a wet dream for the LAW.

I've been some places where I'd change that to "seems illegal" ...

Evidently in PA, it's illegal to have a 2" trailer ball mounted in you bumper because it blocks view of the license plate. Either that, or it's a technique used to make illegal stops on out of state plates.

That's the law in Ca.  Is that the way it is in most states?
