It is a bus thing Scott it started years ago when Eagle owners starting stuffing the Cummins,Cat and series 60 into the Eagles.
The 8v92 is a good engine if you take care of it, heat is it's worst enemy and that is caused by the owners wanting more HP over powering a cooling system that was not design for it like they say  "DD 2 strokes do not die of natural causes they are murdered "

I am factory certified Detroit engine rebuilder.  I am in Prescott AZ  450 miles or so from LA.  I would tear down your engine to assess the damage before giving an estimate, and I only charge $75 hour.  No problem getting parts or machine work.

Geoff will do you a good job,I am closer and would help but I have 2 -8v92 and 1- 6v92 when I dyno those and ship the engines out that is the end for me. I do have some 10hr take out liner and piston sets all OEM DD  , rebuilt heads, std crank (1 new),5 sets of injectors and rebuilt bypass blowers I will sell at a bargain for a 8v92 TA.

I also have a complete 1988 low hr 8v92TA 475HP but you would need to change the bell housing and gear arrangement to work in your MCI it has the newer and better cams

oops I forgot I have Don Fairchilds 8V92Ta coming in this fall then that will be the end  ::)
