Well I'm finally almost done with putting a series 50 in my bus. The bus hasn't moved under its own power for almost 10 months and hopefully by the end of the weekend it will move under it's own power again :) I bought a 94 Gillig transite bus for the transplant and I still needed alot of plumbing material but having the donor bus is the only way to go. Here is a few pictures

That's pretty cool. Nice piece of work.

It should have adequate enough power and get good fuel mileage, and last a long time.

Careful with your HP rating Chad H is looking for another series 50 for his Eagle his 50 series didn't last 10,000 miles set at 425hp but he was warned  ;D

From a guy that has done 4 of them, that looks great.  You will have something to be proud of when that goes in your bus.  There are at least 8 series 50 running in this area that have had the horse power raised.  None have given any problems.  One has had 70,000 miles sense it was raised.  We can make the ECM say anything you want, 600 HP would be no problem.  What we are trying to do is get the most power without smoke.  It doesn't make any difference what the power setting is the engine will only do so much.

ECM's can be set about any hp but if you don't have the ingredients in the engine it a short life.I am building my 12.7 series 60 to 650 hp and it is not cheap I can tell you.The guy doing my ECM made mine where I can adjust the perimeters driving from my I Pad neat $#!% all this electronic stuff

I think I would be happy around 350hp - 375hp something safe but willget me up the hills.

Two things that need to be addressed with the Series 50. The balance shafts should be replaced every 300,000mi-these should be done now (if you don't know how long it has been since last replacement). And make sure you use the special soft engine mounts since it is just a 4 cylinder and rough at idle. Suggest you set at 350hp-more than enough power and it will last a long time. You should get about 10mpg. In my opinion, the Series 50 is the perfect RV/bus engine. It is so efficient, when Greyhound switched some of their MCI-9's from the 6V-92TA to Series 50's, they were able to remove one of the radiators and use the open space for the air to air intercooler. As I remember, they got about 2 mpg better than the 6V-92's. Good Luck, TomC

I bet 600 hp series 50 would last as long as a snowball in hell.Chad's 50 did good at 400 hp for a long time 425 hp just pushed it over the top.FWIW you see MCI's with a 8v92 set at 335hp from MCI

425hp would be nice but that sounds like a lot out of a 4 cylinder ;)

Just what I said, there is a box that you put the HP in and it doesn't care what you put there.  Doesn't mean a thing.
