I've been scouring the board archives for more info on getting our 8v92 DDEC II cruise working. I have the switches in the coach but cruise doesn't work. Coach cruises at 75 mph so I'm wondering if cruise isn't activated? I know I can take it to a Detroit shop to activate it and I have the switches and they have wires running to them. How can I definitely determine if I have all the hardware I need to use cruise?

It can be turned on with a ProLink. You don't need to go to a DD dealer.

!st check to be sure it is activated,2nd find out if its rpm controlled or vehicle speed controled the latter will have a sensor on the transmission or work off the speedometer.
A Pro/link is in your future there are only 38 pages of trouble shooting guides for the cruise control on a DDEC  ;D

Make sure you have Revision 154, the last one available for DDEC II.
It can't be installed with a ProLink, btw.

What do you mean the coach cruises at 75 MPH?  There are three things to make the cruise work.  You need a switch to turn it on,  an air switch to turn it off if you step on the brake and then a switch to activate and then to reset the speed.  If it didn't come with cruise it may not be turned on in the ECM.

If you get it working I'll be Jealous also.  There is also a wire for a clutch switch that you need to jump.

Ok so the panel on my armrest has all the switches with wires going to them. The front J-Box has wires going to the cruise control studs. So I'm sure it has it, what I mean about 75 mph is that someone once said if you have cruise activated the bus will be governed at 70mph. I can say for sure it is NOT. I can haul butter beans in this thing. 26,000 lbs shell...it moves. Cliff, fast idle appears to be disconnected...switch does nothing

Scott, the reason Cliff ask if the fast idle worked is because they are both on the same system.  If the fast idle is working the cruse won't.  The switch goes between the fast idle and cruse.  If you don't have the wiring diagram call MCI and they will send it to you.  800-241-2947  I take my download to Staples and get 36 in prints ( you can see them)

I have the wiring diagram but I think I need to attend schematic school to understand this thing. I'll keep trying. I'll get there...you all might have moved to Mars by then but I will get there

Scott, when you get the hang of it they are not bad it took me awhile and I am still learning the system is broken down in 2 different parts 1st is the Detroit Diesel responsibility that is in the Detroit application manual 2nd is the OEM responsibility part that is the MCI manual, then comes the transmission and all 3 are going to cross paths some time, you will be fine if you don't get frustrated

good luck

Thanks Dave. Are you buying your replacement switches from MCI? Cliff, true. The time consuming part is starting up the bus, airing it up, pulling it out of the backyard into the street and testing it which you can't do until you're past 25mph so to the main road I go :-/
