I certainly hope they do well in this market but many newcomers have come with positive fanfare only to crash and burn because of bad quality.

If they develop a good service network across the continent, they could do well. I see they are using a Cummins and Allison powertrain for this market, making easier to partner with service providers. Irizar has been involved for a long time in parts of the world where bus travel has remained the best and only way for people to travel. If I was in the bus business, I would certainly look into their offer. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take market share away from MCI and Prevost... We'll see...

Competition is always a good thing since it keeps the old guard on their toes. I like the CUMMINS part too. :)

There is no other engine available in the American market but the Cummins,I hope the Irizar does better this time around the last time it was a nightmare with all the electrical problems.
The Turkish company has a new 45 ft on the market here now not a bad looking bus with the Cummins engine made in China

DETROIT is available in MCI, VAN-HOOL and soon to be THOMAS.

luvrbus

Yep but MCI has ties to M/B with the Setra so does Vanhool and Thomas

I understand that THOMAS and SETRA are part of DAIMLER so you are correct on that part of the argument. But MCI offered DETROIT engines long before they got into this spaghetti plate arrangement with SETRA.
VAN-HOOL is not affiliated with DAIMLER at least at the moment.

Thomas the tanks engine? I thought it was gas.

MCI had no excess to the DD13 till they made the deal you are right MCI along with manufactures did use the series 60,50 and 40 but that changed with the new engines  ,Vanhool and Dailmer have a joint venture on going in Spain I read in a bus magazine

True and I also forgot about the VAN-HOOL 3035RE that was built on a FREIGHTLINER chassis.
Didn't know about the venture in Spain but the market if quite different over there.
PIERCE one of the largest American fire apparatus builders offers DETROIT engines and they certainly have no affiliation with DAIMLER and in fact, they are the only one that offers DD. Some customers want them I guess.

luvrbus

It's good for Cummins,Daimler won't let IH,Pete,KW,Volvo have their engine but I do see Daimler using their DD5 and DD6 engines in their RV chassis competing with Cummins for that market

Since Ford acquired Cummins ,it seems they will sell to any one who can show them the money, even in a Nissan pick up for goodness sakes!! 60 grand !!

I read someplace Ford sold their stake in Cummins back before 2000 but I don't know that for sure since I don't do Google  ::)

CUMMINS is not owned by FORD but perhaps they had a very small interest in CUMMINS many years ago. I have been a CUMMINS stock holder since '02 so if FORD should happen to want to buy them, I would get a nice check.
FORD would prefer to build their own engines and who can blame them since the NAVISTAR disaster in the FORD SUPER DUTY.
"The heck with it, we'll do it ourselves. That new ISV V8 would have been nice in the F150 as diesel option. But NISSAN should do very well with it in the TITAN.
