Thanks to you guys who encouraged us to meet John Vickers. Yesterday we spent an hour with him at his home here in Texas. Took an indoor and outdoor tour of his 4905 too. It was fascinating chatting with him and hearing his stories. He doesn't get his bus out much anymore though his son-in-law did get to stretch its legs a couple of days ago. Nice coach. My wife and baby girl came with so it was a family affair. He mentioned several of you in our conversations :)

Nice pic. He doesn't post much here anymore but maybe RJ could rustle him up to post a thought or two. He has two titanium 45 gallon tanks out of a commercial aircraft for his freshwater. They look like atom bombs.

That's great to hear you spent some time with John. He and I have been good buds for 20 years. I can not even remember how I was first introduced, but it was by phone. I was a foolish 29 year old looking to buy a Scenicruiser. He gave great advice to a kid who knew nothing about old buses. His Dad drove Scenics for Greyhound, and I heard truly great stories about the golden age of bus travel. John put me in touch with Fred Rayman (who many of you may know) who is a bus operator, and walking encyclopedia of Scenicruiser knowledge. John and Fred put me onto Andy Henderson from Weedsport, NY. Andy had three 4501s, and several other GM buses. I ended up buying my first Scenic from Andy in 1997, and began a great friendship with him, and his son Andy jr. Sadly Andy senior has passed, but we still remain close with his wife and Andy jr. I owe much of my passion for old coaches, and life-long friendships to John Vickers.

If you know of the whereabouts of a PD4501 Scenicruiser - I would like to add the serial number to my registry of surviving Scenics.  www.tomsgarageonline.com
