I posted a link earlier to a forum for professional drivers in Canada. A subforum on that site contains a huge amount of transit bus fan material. These guys have entire forums and 20 page threads with nothing but transit bus photos, sightings, and they even keep track of transits being "retired". Seriously, it's like a cult following. They voluntarily get in trouble with the authorities just for a good photo of a transit in the station. They keep spreadsheets of buses and their transit numbers. I never knew there was this underground bus cult. Crazy stuff. Just read this one page (of many) excerpt of their conversation about retired ORION V transits:

Amen to that. :) I guess it's like any other hobby or interest, people will often go to extreme measures to get a picture or information.
Rail fans will park along the tracks as close as possible to take videos or still pictures. People that like aircraft will go to the airport and watch planes take off. I have done this for decades and take my scanner to listen. Yes, I take the scanner all over the house and listen to it constantly even when I have the TV on and will park it on one channel then. I love fire trucks and once in a great while, I will go to a fire if practical and get a picture or 2 of the apparatus but do so at a safe distance and not interfere. Many people have a great interest in fishing and while I never had interest I can respect those that do. But some extreme types will risk life and limb to catch a fish by going out on the ice and many break thru.

I suppose it's all relative. I notice every bus conversion now. Even my wife stops to take pictures of them when we spot one :) we are all slightly nuts
