I was just wondering if there is a good place to post an ad for bus parts other than e-bay and here on the forum. I have windows, condenser, blower motor assembly for the central heater core, the condenser itself, refrigerant tank etc.

I am willing to work a deal for any of the parts but I am really hoping to sell the windows so that I don't have to store them. I know it is not a huge market for this sort of stuff but I would like to have the best possible chance to sell them so if there is somewhere I should be posting let me know! Or if there is a yard to sell this stuff to somewhere I would be open to that too... if they paid a somewhat fair price. Perhaps companies that need spare windows? Anything would help.

The money is going right back into the conversion; I am hoping it helps pay for the roof raise if at all possible!

All thoughts, opinions, and help is appreciated!

The best way to sell bus parts is to email your list of parts to me and we will put them in the Classified Ad section of magazine for you.  For $70 for a 1/6 page ad, we will run your ad for 3 months in the Print Edition of the magazine and 6 months in the Digital Edition.

Not only that we will also add your info to our online Classified Ad section of our website for up to a year if it does not sell in the meantime and also post an Alert on the Forum where everyone will see your ad. Your ad will go on our website as soon as we receive all of the info.  We sell an average of one bus or bus parts per month in our Classified Ad section.

Also, if you are not currently a subscriber, we will send you a Digital Edition of our magazine every month until your ad expires absolutely FREE.

Send your info to Gary@BusConversions.com and I will contact you to ensure we have everything we need to run your ad.

Just me but I read constantly the "For Sale" section right here in this Excellent Bus Conversion Magazine Forum.

Not to mention that Gary is providing this free sandbox for us to play in. Maybe it's just me but it seems even asking for alternative locations is a little off. I'd say it's downright rude to actually list alternative free sites.

The last thing I would ever want to do is hurt you.

My understanding was we are open to discuss bus and bus related topics here?

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the info.

Just curious, have you ever thought about offering the ads for a small percentage as opposed to a flat rate? I would definitely list with you if I had a bus because $70 vs the amount I would get from a bus is very little. However I am trying to get rid of Misc. parts that aren't worth much more than the $70 ad (all together they are worth more but I would have to sell far more than your average to make that)... I simply can't afford to run an ad if I have to sell more than one part just to pay for it. I hardly have any $ (that is what being 24 and being at the tail end of student loans will do) which is why I am selling the parts to help pay for the conversion. Also, if you average 1 bus or bus parts per month I am at a further disadvantage. Hopefully it makes sense that a smaller percentage based ad may be a lot easier to stomach; it is pretty much what e-bay does, you can lower the percentage for higher ticket items as not to push those customers away. Just my unsolicited thoughts.

Anyhow, thank you for the information. It was nice meeting you this last weekend at the Mini Rally.

Almost forgot one other thing. I do appreciate this platform to share knowledge. If you felt my post was a slight against you and BCM then by all means I understand if you take it down; just know that I am only trying to figure out how to get rid of some stuff!

Bjorn and Lauren et. al,

You can list up to $1,000 in bus parts on the Spare Tire Forum here...  http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?board=4.0

You can list buses and bus parts for sale in our Classified Ad section on our website.  We offer those services to all of our Forum members absolutely free as a service to our members.  Click here to see our Classified Ads.   http://www.busconversions.com/bcmclassifieds/index.php

As for running ads for a percentage of the sale for lower priced bus parts in our magazine, this is not a profitable venture for us.  We just raised our 1/6 page ads from $60 to $70 in January because we hardly make any profit on the smaller classified ads as it is.  It takes a lot of our time to collect the ad info, proofread it and sometimes make suggestions for improvement, and then format it to be consistent with our other ads so they all are in a similar format so they are easy and efficient to read. Then we have to process credit cards via PayPal which takes their cut and then the accounting that is required for the IRS so they can take their cut.  What you end up seeing on our website and in our Classified Ad page and what you see in the magazine is seldom what we are sent to place in BCM.

Some classified advertisers have no idea how to write up a description for a bus so I frequently have to rewrite them almost from scratch.  Most people send in too many words for their ads and I have to cull out the unimportant ones.  Also many people send in too many photos and tell me to pick the best ones.  All of this takes time.  Then there is the cost of the Editor laying out the ad, the proofreading after and then sending back any necessary changes and of course the cost of the printer to print out up to three issues per ad and the cost of postage.  At those rates, we are basically offering a service more than creating a profit because of all of the labor involved on ads but feel we should do this for our subscribers and every little bit helps.

On top of that as has already been mentioned, everyone looking at this Forum is reading it completely free of charge.  It costs a lot of money to support the website as it is not a simple mom and pop website.  There are hundreds of thousands of lines of customized code and posts in our database that has been built up over the years. We also receive over 1 million hits on our website every month and in January we hit 1.8 million. It takes a large dedicated server to support a website like this which is very expensive to maintain. However we can still brag that we have over a 99.99% uptime which is very rare for any website. A lot of bus nuts have come to rely on the Forum for support when they run into a problem but I am glad to do it because it is where I learned how to work on my bus.

So as was mentioned earlier, please send us any advertising that you feel is worth $70 to not only support the only Bus Conversion periodical still being printed but also to support the free Forum that so many bus nuts have come to rely on for so many years.

If only 10% of the folks reading this Forum would purchase a magazine subscription, we would be able to go back to producing a 100 page magazine again with tons of additional bus conversion info in it for all to contribute to and to learn from.  However, the cost of adding only four additional pages is very expensive which is why many magazines have gone by the wayside as the cost of printing and mailing has prohibited them from continuing.  Unfortunately most people don't realize that magazine subscription income does not support the magazine because of the high cost of printing and mailing now.  It is the Online Edition magazine that is allowing us to survive now to offset the cost of providing a Print Edition which so many folks have come to rely on for the bus conversion advice. However the more subscribers we have, the more advertisers we can bring on board as they rely on our subscribers to make their sales. There are also a lot of older folks out there that do not have internet or email access so they still need to receive the Print Edition which is why we still continue to provide it even though, many folks have told me to discontinue producing the Print Edition and only provide the Online Edition. All profits, as small as they are, come from our Display Advertisers, so please call them first when you need parts and service for your bus as this will help us build BCM back up to what it once was.

I am not crying poverty but many people don't realize that it costs a lot of money to produce a niche magazine now-a-days.  I am trying very hard to make a go of it because I love the concept, but as many of you know, running a business is very hard and to be successful and requires long days and 7 day weeks to run a magazine with such a niche market.

So please support our magazine to allow us to continue providing Print Editions for folks with no internet or email access by advertising with us and even more so, subscribing to our magazine.
