I stopped at Sun Coast on the East side of San Antonio off I 10 and got a case of Delo 400 SAE 40. Not familiar with it though: the jug says CF (not CF2), "for older Detroit diesel engines". $11.68/gal.

JC -

For awhile, Delo 400 was approved for two-stroke use, but Chevron changed the formula and it lost it's approval.  It should get you buy as spare until you get home, tho.

Which reminds me. . . I need to load a case of oil into the baggage bin before I leave for Q on Wednesday morning.  Fortunately, I've got 9 cases in my storage unit. . .  :)

I looked up the description for delo 400, and see that they sold me the wrong oil. It is not recommended for 2 stroke Detroits. Delo 100 is the correct oil right? I'll see if I can return it and get the 100.

Any O Rielley's can get the right stuff overnight on an order. (Chevron Delo - Motor Oil, Part # 100-40-1)

I was reading the specs on the 400 last night looks like Chevron is playing games again, they are complying with the EPA mandate of less than .1% ash in the 400.I lmao at the specs to protect the 100 read this all is good till the get to the 30 and 40w their best sellers in the 100

      ash%

10w  .95   down from 1.27%
20w  .95
30w  1.50 up from 1.27 %
40w  1.50
50w   .95

what gives with that outfit  "older Detroit Diesel Engine" single weight oil was never recommend for the 4 stroke Detroit's it always been 15/40

Still in San Antonio. I returned the Delo 400 this morning. They don't have the 100 on hand and would have to order it. I didn't go for it as we are leaving tomorrow morning.

Find a supplier near you and purchase the MTU/Detroit Diesel oil.  I get mine from United Engines.  Jim H

JC, Stewart Stevenson Detroit on East I 10 in San Antone probably would have Delo 100.

If no local stores have it available and you have an address for a few days, our advertisers on Amazon can ship straight 40w Rotella direct to your location.

I was at a friends and he has been using delo 400 in his bus.  I told him that it was not cf2 rated.  The bottle of Delo 400 has a rating of CF.  I'm not sure what the difference between CF and CF2 is.  So then I grab the bottle of MTU Mobile Delvac 40w specifically made for 2 stroke detroits and it's also only rated at CF and not CF2 listed on the bottle.  So what's up with that?

Well due to this oil conversation I read the printing on my last jug of 400-40 wgt. and it does say, not  for 2 stroke engines, I did go to o,rilleys in Yuma and they had delo 100 in stock,

Oil schmoil. I just put in delvac 1240....works for me. Considering how much oil leaks and burns in these beasts, it's almost like a fuel....and it's a rare fuel you can't hardly find anywhere. So why do we drive them? Sigh.

I still have 2 gal of 40w from home (I get the Supertech CF2 available at most W Marts in Canada). And, as mentioned earlier, I bought 2 gals of Rotella T1 at a gas station a few days ago. So this will get me home. I had an extra pail that I used for an oil change on the way down (on the side of the street near Houston). Getting rid of the used oil is a lot easier than finding the new stuff: an O'Reilly took it, a couple of blocks away. I don't need an oil change until after I get home, so I'll be fine. Thanks everybody for looking for me.
