radiator replace

Hi.  I am looking to replace the radiator in my 1983
 prevost  / 8v92 silver / 754  it has the 871 radiator
 in it still  would like to recore it or better if i could
 find the 8v92 radiator.the price quotes are unreal
 looking for thoughts and  ideas. have been working
 on this conversion for 10 years.labor of love for a old
 trucker.and very pleased with the outcome.any help
 is appreciated. thanks to this forum for the info.when
 i was repowering motor and trans. thanks Jim.

did you disconnect main bus heat exchanger? If so remote mount it and run electric fan to move air across it.

When I turbo'd my 8V-71, I had the radiator recored from the standard 5 row straight fins to 6 row serpentine fins. Improved cooling, but still needed more. Have misters that help out on long pulls in summer.

Misters I started with were 15 from Home Depot. Worked OK, but still had to stop to let cool off on over 100 days. I then drilled out two of the misters with a 1/16th drill. Now they dump some water and it cools down while climbing. I made the radiator as big as I could. Good Luck, TomC

  it as i mounted my gen.set there. Tom were you
  able to mount the 6 row in the same framework
   as the 5 row? I dont have a bad heat problem
   my radiator is the orignal and like me worn down
   some. could use some help finding a supplier that
   supplys quality at a fair price. or a sound takeout.
   the fins on mine are turning to dust. I like the misters
   will use your Idea.It only offers to heat on hot day on
   the grapevine and dropping a gear and backing out
   keeps it in line. thanks tom as you were the one who
   advised me to stay with the 92 when I wanted to go
   with a b/c 400 I am happy with the 500 hp. silver.

I have had good luck getting radiators rebuilt for a decent price.  thing is you need to find the shop that does this and deal with then directly, anyone between you and shop will double the price.

Usually a heavy-duty copper/brass radiator should take at least a 6 row core. A radiator shop will know for sure. Going to a 7 row starts getting so thick air flow can be a problem. New trucks are using 2 row aluminum radiators with plastic tanks. Course when they go bad you install a new one-no repairing them. Good Luck, TomC

     Jim, you've got a lot of good technical advice above, but I'd suggest that (unless you have an acute failure or a critical need to replace the radiator RIGHT NOW) you take your time.  If you look around, you might find someone with a radiator or core in their warehouse that's good for the 92 but they've sold off all their 2-stroke buses.  Of maybe you can find the perfect rebuilder.  Or someone might pop up with an available later-model replacement.  It appears that what you have works pretty much OK and you're not going to see "cooking hot" outside temps for another 6 months or so.  Take your time and look around.

Built my mister system the second time for my 8-V92 Turobed using 1/2 inch drip mister tubing and 180 degree sprayers really made a difference on my MCI 7

  sofar it is in the ballpark with a new core from prevost.
I do plan on installing the misters I do want to replace it
  before I have a real problem.thanks all for the feed back
