Ventless generator box

I once had to build a box to place a 85db air compressor inside of a medical clinic and make it silent.
I did this by using a remote stainless muffler on the air intake and a radiator and fan inside the box connected to a radiator and fan outside.
The box was totally sealed and the heat generated in the box was removed by the radiator circuit.
Im starting to wonder if I could do the same thing with a generator.

Air in would be through a remote muffler
Exhaust would be through a flex , then muffler or two aimed straight up past the roof line of the bus ..
Box sealed , closed cell foam, MLV , Lead, with removable service panel.
Remote radiator for generator.
Remote radiator for cooling enclosure.
Generator on air springs

My goal is a very quiet generator, Any thoughts?

It's not hard to make a diesel generator quite I had mine down in the 70 dba range, the air intake is where all my noise came from later

I didn't even have a muffler just a long 12 ft exhaust pipe with a 90 bend with the generator setting on 4 gel bags,the air springs didn't work out for me there as to much movement

Need to remount my gen.  Planning on slide-out with remote radiator, flex s/s tubing to exhaust.  Saw a similar nice high end install - they used cab mount air bags.  You are making me think the gel filled would be better.  Googled gel filled suspension bags - no hits.  Where might I get more info on them?  Vertical clearance may be an issue with air filled - gel may solve a couple problems.

I am redoing the generator in the bus I just got and ordered the filled mounts from www.vibarationmounts.com @ 40 bucks each any marine supply sells the gel filled but are a little pricey there

I really like the ides of a remote cooling radiator for the enclosure. I think I'll steal your idea!  I presently have an enclosed genny cooled with thermostatically controlled pusher and puller fans.  They do the job but as luvrbus points out the air intake is a main source of noise.  I've got the noise level down to 60 dB but getting rid of the fan noise would really help lower it farther.

My genny came with rubber isolators between the engine/head set and the frame so I just added 6 valve springs in captive housings to mount the frame on--low tech I know but there is no vibration whatsoever transferred to the bus proper.  Jack

Todd, I would love to follow your quiet-box build. I've heard of guys making their diesel gennies so quiet that they can almost run them during generator restricted hours at national parks. Crazy...I would love that capability

Because of the tightness of my generator box (it is mounted next to the driver's seat like a front engine) I have remote radiator. To cool the box I use an 8" inline bathroom ventilator from Graingers (about 250 cfm) to cool the box. Have about 1200 hours on the gen with no problems. With a 4 cylinder engine, the intake is the noisiest part. I have a air muffler at the engine, then a Donaldson remote air cleaner with a long intake run to another muffler from Wrico. You can still here the intake hum.
On my new gen, it is 3 cylinder with the air cleaner built onto the engine. I'm also hoping for a nearly silent generator.
But-My generator is quieter then an Onan "quiet" Diesel genset. There was a sticks and staples with a "quiet" diesel, and you couldn't hear mine running until you were about 10ft from my bus.
There is no such thing as a too quiet generator. Good Luck, TomC
