Has anyone put or thought about putting a DT 466 in a GM 3751 ? would it fit?

Just remember that the present engine is left hand or runs the opposite direction compared to the 466.Would probably work with  VR731 Allison, which has an added direction of engne rotation reverser. I'm not sure of the overall length or height though. I don't know if the work would be work the effort though if it fits. 6-71's are pretty reliable and get decent fuel mileage in that size coach. A newer turbo'ed engine would work well. One of the biggest concerns with a 466 would be engine vibration transmitted to the chassis. Two cycles are very low in vibrations. Get dimensions from 6-71,466, VR731, and the angle drive manual in the coach now and do the math. Installing a V730 automatic behind current engine will stick out of the pass side about 4 inches. Performance would be fair behind a na 6-71 engine; satisfactory with turbocharging.

I for one have wondered time to time if the 6 110 Detroit would fit.

6-110 is way to heavy-weighs just about twice what a 6-71 weighs. If you can bolt up a DT466 to a VR730-that would work. Other engines I know that could be used were the Detroit Series 50, Cummins ISL, ISM. The only other engine I know of that can directly be used is a Cummins 903-it can be reversed. I saw a turbo 903 in a 4106-was a tight fit, but did work. It was set at 270hp. Good Luck, TomC

If I were gonna put a dt 466 in, I would use an electronic version, not the newer version though. They are pretty reliable and durable. Works best if you buy the whole vehicle so you have all the parts. The wiring would be pretty easy i think.
don't panic, just fix it before.... 1966 mc5, 1986 102a2
