Foul water problem

I've run into a bit of a problem. I've got my shower base installed.

The nut on the other side of the drain attaches quite well but I need a second nut to put underneath the bus to keep the whole lot firmly down. I can't omit the nut directly under the shower base for fear of leakage.

Lowe's has a company called Danko to make these to be sold under the Lowe's name. Both Danko and Lowe's are being resistant about supplying a second nut. Hell, I'm not asking for it free - I'd be happy to pay a sane amount and sane postage.

I think it's a 1.5 inch nut. The outside diameter of the thread is 1.48 inches and the inside is 1.45 inches.  Lowe's couldn't find anything to fit the other day. On the other hand, perhaps I was talking to a minimum wage moron?

Buy another drain and use the nut out of it.

I would cut a hole in the floor big enough to access the nut in the shower base. I would not anchor the pipe and base to the floor.

If you have e really good traditional hardware store nearby, pay them a visit.   I vaguely recollect seeing an assortment of large plumbing-size nuts and pieces at the place I frequent.   You want to find a store that doesn't sell what Home Despot / Lowes / etc sell, where there are grumpy old men behind the counter who wince and mumble if you don't know the exact part number or specification of what you want!   That's my kind of place!

Otherwise, if it's a permanent installation use lots of polyurethane caulk such as Loctite S40 instead of additional nuts, or try welding or gluing it if the plastic allows.

Why are you using a basin drain for a shower? I would suggest using a regular 2" shower drain, especially in light of your intention to also dump your kitchen waste water into the shower.

The fitting works better for my rubber shower pan. That's the sole reason.

The rubber shower base is springy and needs to be held down in order to make the drain hole the lowest point.

Buy another drain and use the nut out of it.

When I put my shower pan in for both the bus and truck, it is floating with only the side walls holding it in place. Has worked well, no leaks. Lots of silicone sealer.
If wasn't for silicone sealer, nylon tie straps, I think my bus would fall apart. Good Luck, TomC

I'd either tile it of make a stainless pan & be done with it forever. That way, you can make it the shape and size you want to take full advantage of all of the the space you have available for this.

Dealing with leaks in waste water is something I don't like.

If you tile it - use small tile & "flexible" grout.

I'm quite happy with my recycled rubber cement mixing tub.

Meanwhile, I'll be visiting a plumbing supply specialist today. Maybe that'll turn up something worthwhile.

I can't believe it's this hard to get a sodding 50c nut!
