Hey luvrbus,  I hope lvmci gets lucky too but I'd like to know how the hi capacity pump kit works--is it a different housing? A different gear speed?  A different impeller or just what.  Thanks, Jack

Same housing just a different impeller, bearings and seal,7 blades instead of 5

Hi Tom.  I thought about removing the louvers from my bus but once I discovered that they actually worked I decided to keep them.  Mine have a valve in the pneumatic system which allows me to choose whether to use them or not.  I'm sure your other bus had such a valve but I don't know about your late model one.  It would be fun to do a smoke test (or something) in a wind tunnel just to see if the open louvers improve air flow or if they restrict it.  My bus came with after market air scoops and I did remove them--once again the wind tunnel question.

I have no idea if it is recommended, but when ever I replace a thermostat I drill at least one 1/8" hole in it such that the hole serves as an air bleed when I fill the radiator.  Years ago we had a rental fleet of Chrysler sedans (roughly 60 of 'em) and we drove them into the ground and then rebuilt them.  We had a terrible time working the air out of the cooling system and after twice blowing a head gasket on a fresh rebuild, I started drilling vent holes in the thermostats to burp the system.  I never had another problem with trapped air.  Curiously, when I replaced the stats in my 8v92 I found that the last stats had a single 1/8" hole drilled in the side.  I wonder if this is common practice?

Good luck on your repair, I'll be interested to know what you learn once you have your radiators out.  Jack

hi Jack, Clifford said they do restrict air flo, even in open position, no matter which way I leave LV, there's mountains to climb, and I want to have aa much cooling capacity as I can, tom...
