I fixed a minor power steering leak on my bus, but now I need about a quart of ATF.  I assume the steering has Dexron II in it like the manual calls for.  Can use Dexron III to top off?

The Auto Zone house brand ATF is Dexron 11 specs but I don't think mixing 11 and 111 will hurt anything I see on the WM house brand bottle it says for 11 or 111 replacement

When I change my steer to Sheppard, the suggested hydraulic fluid was 15W-40 engine oil. Good Luck, TomC

My maintenance manual says to use Dexron II ATF, not engine oil.  It looks like Dexron III and Dexron II should be compatible.  Dexron II has been obsolete for so long that I am surprised my bus calls for it.

I believe that Chevron says that some motor oils are compatible.

I know that Dexron has been substituted with 0w30 syn in power steering on many different models of cars and trucks in the Arctic with excellent results.
I would not hesitate to use it. ymmv etc. :)

The only difference between Dex 2 and 3 is the additives. Dex 3 has Mercon. it is OK to mix in your power steering.
