I'm thinking of putting one in my bus. Anyone using these? What brands seem to hold up well? Any input appreciated.

For over 25 yr I have used the GPS for speedo etc. All my units have been Garmin, now have about 6-8 of them.  Guess I am a supporter of the GPS as they work.  The new ones today also show what lane to use for staying on route or turn etc, have gotten very fancy and dependable.  One small point, sometimes they might give you a wrong turn so it is  good to know where your going, keep an open mind, pay attention.  Usually it is due to trying to put you on a bigger road when you know a quicker/shorter way, stay awake.

I think he means a speedometer that uses gps to get speed of vehicle. They just display speed and miles.

Yep, I first got a GPS when I started driving for a charter company. ALL the drivers had one. I remember we had two coaches coming back from being out east. In Chicago I could not get over to keep west due to traffic. I radioed the other driver to let him know I was on a detour. I was amazed at how quick the GPS recalced and had me back on course.  But now, I am looking for a analog looking, in dash speedometer, that gets its input from a GPS. I see Soeedpilot has one for 280.00. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with one.

I installed the Speed Hut one 3 years ago works great, gives you a odometer and trip odometer.

Thanks guys. It was a Speed Hut unit I was looking at, 80mph, with odometer, trip, and a half dozen other displays that can be viewed. Gary, glad to hear you've had good luck with it. Does yours display compass, altitude, time, and of course the necessary for 4104's, quarter mile et and time? Cliff, do the marine ones have odometer/trip?

The one I purchased does I am guessing that is why it was in close out as the marine GPS speedometers have a compass in that space.

Find a outfit that is scraping out the military stuff just about all of the Humvees and other vehicles have the Faria/Beede GPS speedometers and they sell those cheap. Some are 0-60 some are 0-80 with trip meters and odometers

Cliff, does yours have an external antenna? If not, does the internal one work good in a bus?

I've had the Speedhut GPS speedo for two years. Works as described. Matches the GPS for speed.
