Upper Cabinet Latch Source

I'm still in shock, but I want to post this question before I forget.

What has me in such a dither is the video about the bright red and polished stainless Scenic. Raised and stretched. I understood him to say that his name is Pat McNeal. It's the most impressive conversion I've seen. Remarkably well done, and if my rich uncle ever gets straight, I'll buy that bus. Can't believe I'd never seen it.

But back to reality. In the early interior segment, he opens an upper cabinet by pressing a round button and then pulling on the button assembly. I've been searching relentlessly for that sort of latch/handle. I'll have many cabinet doors and drawers, and I'd like to find that sort of latch for all. Any hardware help here?

TIA

Jim

P.S. My uncle is a hunchback.

Jim, with your skills you could easily adapt a glove box door latch say from a '54 Chevy or such and save your money to buy me a beer when finally we meet!  Jack

Hey Jim,
Yes, Pat did some slight modifications to that Scenicruiser. If you think it looks good in a video, you should see it in person!

Pat is also one of the nicest people I have ever met.

They can be found at www.rockler.com in the latch section. Only problem, the only color is bright brass from rockler. They operate as a draw pull and can be pushed in to lock the drawer when on the move.

Rumour has it that redbull offered Pat half million for the big red bus.

Pat responded " would work for  a dollar hour  that is about what you are offering.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I thought the Rockler option might be the ticket until I read in the reviews that it's plastic. Not gonna go there. For the price they're asking, it should be solid brass, and that would suit me fine. The description does not mention material. It's here if anyone is interested: http://www.rockler.com/positive-action-push-button-catch

Plastic is also the issue with the silver colored button latch someone else suggested. The large, rectangular latches will not fit my door frames, and the glove box latch does not appear to reach through a 3/4" door. It's also not flush and likely to be plastic.

We're full time. Our upper cabinets assume the role of basement storage in most coaches. Some of them will not see much use, but other cabinets and drawers will be opened frequently. Latches need to be clean, sturdy, secure, easy to use and work on doors and drawers. Also, they must not protrude and snag loose clothing. Plastic catches will not be up to the job. Even if they were, I hate the look and feel of plastic "hardware" especially when used with beautiful, natural-finish hardwood. Our first choice is polished brass. If you know of a latch that meets these criteria, I'd love to see it.

Maybe what I want does not exist, but I'm guessing Pat did not use plastic latches on that gorgeous Scenic. Is he on this board? Does someone know how to reach him? He could answer my question.

Uncle Ned, I'm glad to hear that he turned down Red Bull. Would be a shame to see such a work of art turned into anyone's rolling billboard. Double shame for such a dubious product.

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim, I've used some of the "lever type" compression latches (that Don "Eag" linked) from Southco and also nice little pushbutton drawer latches.  The drawer latches are a little flush button - you have to push the button, then that button with a grooved cylinder behind it pops out; the drawer won't open until you pull that grooved cylinder.  That pushbutton latch (for a drawer) is SUPER nice.  The "lever type" I used on cabinet doors, my bed platform latches, etc., it works well too but visually it's much larger.   I'm pretty sure they're both Southco.

I bought a few made of SS by Sea/Dog the pull you had to buy separate and those came in a 2 finger pull or 1 finger pull, the latch went through the pull like the pull on travel trailers with the lock on the bays

I think I bought those from Jamestown I do remember the 35 bucks ea and 3 bucks apiece for the pulls   ???

I use these.  I love them.  They have been working great for 8 years now with no problems.
