I know that.  For the record, I completely and fully understand the relationship between torque and power and rpm, ever since I had it drilled into me in first year physics.   ;D   My question has nothing to do with that.  My question is why are we taught that running a two stroke at 1200 or 1400 rpm at full throttle is bad?
For cooling?   If I climb a 6% grade in my bus at 35 to 40 MPH in top gear (about 1400 or 1500 RPM, I think) on a full throttle, the engine will overheat, guaranteed.   If I climb the same hill in third gear with a 3/4 throttle at about 2000 RPM, keeping the turbo at about 20 PSI, I can do that all day without the temp exceeding 195.   The only way I can climb the southbound Grapevine in top gear is if it's very cold, like when I drove back from Fresno one cold foggy December night;  if I had been doing that same journey the same way at any other time or season my engine would be toast by now!

Are you thinking about wear on the bearings, or cylinder pressure, or what?

I never worried about a 2 stroke running around 1400 rpm some of those transportation engines were 1800 rpm, the fuel saver was a 1900 rpm engine  I never got it people saying drive it like you stole it

Clifford, sometimes I think you are my brother...  How is that aftercooler kit doing?  I hate to ask...

It's all in 2 boxes except for the dumb adapter I was working on till I had a little set back that cost me 10 stitches that I hope they remove Friday 2 weeks being down is enough  ;D but it is nice sorta I can give everyone the bird with the finger in bandages and they don't even know it

Because in a bus, with the rads being at the back, the 2 stroke overheats if over-fueled. And the fact that a 2 stroke makes twice as much heat as a 4 stroke.

When I first got my bus every one said the same thing, drive it like you stole it, keep it against the governor. I had a heck of a time trying to keep it cool, even put the misters on it. worst advice anyone could have given me. you have to learn how to drive these old girls and running against the governor is not the answer on an mci. Once I learned how to drive it right I can't remember the last time I even used the misters or even seen the temp get over 195,even on a long hard pull.

I think that expression came about back when 6-71's and later 8-71's were used in trucks. Drivers would run them like a 4 stroke and complained they were gutless. They were told by the experienced operators to run them like you stole it would work best and that they would work that way without complaint.
