Attempted to start our bus this AM, '80 Silver Eagle, 8V71, and would not crank, just a clicking nose. Tracked it down to a Skinner Valve, #V5R51700. Where can I get a replacement and would it be possible bypass the switch so we can move the bus? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

Will the engine spin Dennis not sure what you are asking ? most of the time the skinner valve is not the culprit if the engine spins just disconnect the air line going the engine stop  push the plunger in and it should fire you probably have a bad ground on the skinner valve call me if you need help LOL you haven't been messing around with 2 toggle switches back there have you ;D check and be sure it is in neutral also

We could not get the engine to crank. When we pressed the starter I could hear a click sound coming from that valve, nothing else.

I was smart enough to check the switches in the engine compartment but not smart enough to make sure it is in neutral. I will check shortly.

While you are here the thermostats are Stant S-453-180 any parts place can cross reference the number you can usually find replacements on Ebay for around 15 bucks each

check, while the engine is cold, (it's easier) to see if the engine shut off slave cylinder plunger is still extended...it should not be.they stick quite often even if the air that you are hearing (which it is supposed to do) when you turn on the key switch.
That cylinder extended will hold the engine/governor in the no fuel shutdown position.
wD-40 and or a little strip (1/4" x 12") and polish the plunger shaft a little...220 grit oughta do...

The Skinner valves are pretty much bullet proof.
run a jumper wire to the hot side with the air hose disconnected, air should only come out when energized or vice versa, depending on whether it is a normally open or closed Skinner.
