Went out to start the bus yesterday and it turned over fine. Haven't started in a while, and its cold so I was giving it a few short cranks. After the second burst, the starter motor continued running but was not engaged on the flywheel. I shut the battery off , but when. I flipped it back on the starter started running. I understand there isn't much to it but just looking to see if anyone else had this issue. Starter is fairly new with less than 30 starts on it. It seems odd that the solenoid and the bendex would both go at the same time. Any ideas before I drop it ?

New solenoid time. You should be able to take the solenoid off without taking the starter off. Good Luck, TomC

That happened to me once, except I didn't notice the starter was running for three hours.  Kinda hurt the starter a bit.  I had a spare so had it changed at a truck stop.  Hitting the solenoid with a hammer fixed it until I got it changed.

What Clifford's said. You might be able to turn the  contacted washer over inside the solenoid once they arc they do. Not make good contact and will weld themselves together they can be salvaged if you're short of hundred dollar bills maybe only need one for new
