How often to I service my generator?

Hey guys, I have a Kubota D1005-BG-ET02 generator that came with the bus. The PO didn't have a manual to it, so I'm trying to find out how often I need to change oil, and change fuel filter. And if there are any other maintenance I need to know about. I contacted Kubota, and they are wanting me to purchase a whole manual, so I thought I would ask here first. Thanks for your input!  :)

I do not know about that model but my Onan has a Kubota engine and it says to do it every 100 hours. I am surprised that you cannot find this online somewhere. You might watch ebay for a manual.

whats strange is I can't find that exact model number anywhere on Kubotas site. All of their D1005 says 3600 RPM, but on mine it says 1800 RPM

Wow! Thanks Opus!

So now that I'm reading thru the manual, I see something that made me curious. It says that I need to run the generator at idle speed for 5 minutes before turning it off. I actually never knew it had different speeds? So what does this mean exactly? Do you think it is set to idle all the time? or is it possible that the PO has it set at a certain speed and I'm turning it off when I'm not supposed to? The key of course is inside the bus, not right at the generator.

You are welcome.

There is no idle, no speed adjustment etc.  1800rpm is it.  They mean run it with no load for 5 mins, to cool down.  I'd worry about that only if you have been running it hard.

What brand of generator is this, or maybe what style. I had Powertech that ran the same speed all the time no matter what the load. My Onan speeds up and slows down depending on the load. Both had Kubota engines I think, the Powertech has been gone several years now.

Yea mine seems to stay the same no matter what the load. I'm now looking at the maintenance list... Wow, there are some things that haven't been done. This generator only had 200 hours on it when I got it, and I've only put about 200 on it, so it's about 400 now. Looking at this list... is some of it nit picky just so Kubota can cover their selves? Or does all this stuff need to be checked like the list says. I'm not much of a mechanic, some of this stuff I don't know what it means lol  :o

These will last forever.  I know of many units that have more hours than one could imagine.  Well, well over 10,000 hrs.   Filters and oil is pretty much it.  Fuel pumps seem to be the most common issue.  Wouldnt hurt to have a spare, they are fairly cheap.

good because I don't know what a water separator is LOL!

So basically by looking at this... I should be good as long as every 200 hours I'm changing the oil, oil filter?

what about air filter?

also it mentions to clean the fuel filter... can I not just change the fuel filter? or only have to clean it? I noticed it's in 'in-line' fuel filter that is on the fuel line coming in.

Thanks again for your input.

one other question...

without knowing what kind of oil is currently in there, what type of oil would you recommend... here is a pic from the manual. And I'm in the 32F to 77F range... so would you recommend 10W-30 or 10W-40

and does it matter what was previously in there if I'm draining it... for example if I choose 10W-30, but it previously had SEA20, is that a problem?
