4104 air compressor question

Just curious about the compressor, does it stop pumping when it hits the right pressure or does it just relieve the pressure and keep pumping . I noticed the clicking sound stops when the bus is aired up.

I usually help air up the bus with my home air compressor as I warm up the engine. Is there an over pressure relief valve built into the system if I accidentally leave it on too long? My compressor holds 150psi 80 gallon tank

simply put... the compressor swaps the air between it's two cylinders when the governed parameters have been met...cut in cut out pressure setting.

If you have an air dryer, as soon as you hit the cut-out pressure even with your home compressor the governor will switch and the air dryer will purge.  At that point all your compressor air will just run out onto the floor and your compressor will run until you turn it off.  BTDT... 

If you don't have an air dryer I suppose the compressor could run the pressure up to 150 psi, and there is often a pressure relief valve set to 150 psi that might pop.  I personally set the air compressor maximum pressure to about 5psi below what my governor is set to so the compressor just turns off before it triggers the governor to purge the air dryer.

Each tank has a safety pop off set at 150 psi as Brian said or should have maybe lower on a 4104 since it is a 110 psi system

Doesn't your home compressor have a pressure valve on it?  Set it for 110 and it should never allow more than that out of the hose.

the pistons in the compressor never stop going up and down is what i meant....and when the set pressure is met they do not pump to the atmosphere....

Actually I never knew what they did to stop pumping, and having them pump air back and forth between the two pistons makes a lot of sense.  Thanks for that tidbit!

Oh and my home compressor is set at 110 psi  , so scratch that!

Original max pressure for the 4104 is 102 psi so be careful!
