last time i had bumper open i decided to check the air in my spare . I grabbed it & gave a good yank & nothing , didnt budge , thoughts ?

You know it weighs around 220 lbs, right?  It is very hard to pull out, you need to really want it...  If it's been in there a long time it kind of glues itself to the floor.  I usually have to sit on the ground in front, brace with my feet on the bus and really give a serious pull to get it started.

thats what i was afraid of , was hoping there was a magic slide / air cylinder mechanisim , maybe the dw can offer some encouragement !!

It is actually pretty easy, if you have a pry bar. I do it without a bar, but then again, I workout for a reason.

All you have to do is stick the pry bar under the tire, and wiggle the bar back and forth. You can actually walk the tire right out to you. Otherwise, just use the bar to loosen it, then pull it out by hand.

Not trying to be the safety police here,but just want to say be careful lifting and pulling with your( BACK). I am now in the worst pain ive ever having in my life. and its from lifting wrong. Dont do what ive done.tonight will be 11 days/nights trying to sleep in a chair with heating pad, pillows and cant lean back.   .George.

George try ice not heat. as my Chiropractor and back doctor told me," Would you throw a lite match into a burning building to put the fire out?" !5 minutes on and 15 off. Wrap an ice pack in a towel and slip it behnd your back unless you can lay down and have the wife or whoever put it on the pain. Also you can go on line and order some stuff called "Rub on relief" if you order 3 get 1 tube free or order 6 and you get 3 free. You just put it on the pain then go to sleep and you wake up ten times better.

I suffered with herniated discs and 2 surgery's  to  fix them. A few years ago a friend suggested a Zero Gravity clinic, basically a computer controlled machine that stretches you like the medieval rack torture device. It worked wonders and saved me from surgery #3. Follow up is 15 per day on an inversion table. Went from walking with a cane to running with my grand children.

Back on topic, if I were to carry a spare where should it be in my bus?

Your front bumper has two rubber straps under it or should have. Pull those out of the keepers and lift the bumper up until it clicks into locked position. The spare should be right behind it. There will be a bull bar that folds down that hold it from bouncing around also.

Gene, IMO you don't need a spare. You could use the space behind the bumper for other things.

I have been driving buses all my life and can count the number of flats on one hand. None of them had me stranded on the side of the road. You can limp into town with a flat on a rear axle. You can use a rear wheel to put on the front to get to town. You need to carry the tools necessary to do that.

Make sure the tire pressures are up. Low pressure creates heat and blow outs. Try not to rub curbs.

Road side assistance is good to have to.

I find those new dehydrated tires useful.  Comes in a bag. When you need it, you just add water and it swells into a full size tire-- no rim, of course.
