'Tis the season, what's your favorite Christmas music?

I can't stand traditional carols, I guess I've just heard them all too much.  My wife spent last weekend searching high and low for the Neil Diamond Christmas record and she finally found it.  I offered to buy her a shiny new pair of vise-grip pliers instead.  She asked what she would do with those?  I told her she could pull her own teeth out with them, which would be a lot more fun than listening to Neil Diamond sing "Jingle Bells".  She was not amused,,,   ;D

My favorite Christmas songs:

"A Christmas Gift" by Pinkard & Bowden (yeah, the gag song guys, but this song is no gag).  "I don't guess baby Jesus ever had any grandparents, but that's Ok, I'll just lend him mine".

"Christmas guest" by Grandpa Jones

"Nothing but a child" by Steve Earle

"It wasn't his child" by Sawyer Brown

I also like Elvis's "Blue Christmas", and play and sing it (badly) on guitar.  When my kids were little they'd sing backup for me (woo-woo-woo-hoo-ooo, ad nauseum) but now that they're teenagers I can't get them to do it anymore.

Merry Christmas to all my bussin' amigos,

Casper

You didn't score any points there. Expect coal in your stocking this year!  :D

Against my better judgement, I just got a cell phone. Won't use it, but it has a nice FM receiver in it, so I'm sitting here with the earbud in my ear listening to a local station which is playing all Christmas music. I have to say, I enjoy them all.

I have several CD at home. One is a double, called Long Play Christmas or something like that. A lot of traditional, but not all. Has some very nice stuff on it.

I also like the TransSiberian Orchestra stuff.

I like "Christmas Shoes" By New Song for the intent, but think that by Christmas the last 2 years it is really overplayed (But the first time of the Season, It can make a tear come to your eye) another goodie is "Mary did you Know?" by Mark Lowry,  Pretty good song and not what you would expect from a Comedian.

Ya'll can say what you want but this transformed city boy can't get enough of ANY Christmas Bluegrass Music. I don't care who it's by, it all sounds good. It just kind of fits in with the season! A lot of it is traditional carols with an added touch!

You will hear all kinds and it's not ALL twangy like most would think! VERY enjoyable!

"my Girlfriend's a Stripper for Santa"  By Captain Ron, just written this week not recorded yet

I like that song too, but the local radio stations really do overplay it.  I swear they play it at least once an hour.

My favorite Christmas song is hearing Bob Segar singing the little drummer boy!

Anything by Newsong is great!  The are an awesome Christian Contemporary group that has more talent than 90% of the secular pop groups out there.

I also love to hear the Temptations sing "Silent Night"...

The one song I hate (and want to jab a pencil in my ear on) is "Ring Christmas Bells" that it seems like every single product out there changes the words to it to sell their lame-o products on TV (i.e. "buy garmin dot com, garmin dot com").  Oh, it makes me want to scream just typing this.  I keep my hand on the remote to switch it off immediately when I hear that song start to play on a commercial...'

I like just about all of it, although I agree some particular songs get overplayed.

Instrumentals survive the repeated play test better. I lean toward Manheim Steamroller and Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown soundtrack.  ....and while on the Peanuts theme, I'll nominate "Snoopy's Christmas" by the Royal Guardsmen for novelty song.

Merry Christmas mein friend!

"Mr Heatmiser" by the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Band. . .  (Actually, the whole BBVD Christmas album is entertaining and non-mainstream.)

"My Grown Up Christmas List",  Kelly Clarkson's version. . . hard to find, but out there.  Shows the girl can sing something other than pop/rock.

"Merry Christmas, Darling" by Karen Carpenter. . . not too overplayed, thankfully.  But still, that haunting, distinct voice. . .

"Redneck Twelve Days of Christmas" by Jeff Foxworthy. . .

and finally:

"Kung Pau Buckaroo Holiday" by the Kung Pau Buckaroos. . .

'nuff said fur now. . .

I love the Christian version of the "Twelve Days of Christmas".  I also love one song by Dust and Ashes that is about the prettiest Christmas song I have ever heard but  I'm having a senior moment and cannot for the life of me think of the name of it.  Oh well, maybe tomorrow I will remember it.  Cat
