Generator woes

I have a 74 Eagle the generator light would flicker then go out when rev pick up. Sometimes the light stays on, not charging. It seems the problem is the circuit that energizes the relay,any and all advice is welcome.

Run a wire direct from the battery. Check the ground.

Run a wire from the + terminal to the relay?

Your saying it revs up, changes speed etc, light then comes on ???  A model, name and a better description of the issue would be helpful.

   On some vehicles, what you're describing is perfectly normal.  When it's just started and at low RPM, it's not making enough juice to charge but once it get the battery to "fully charged" the light comes on and tells you it's "not charging" -- it's not charging because it's perfectly fully charged.  On those vehicles, the thing to worry about is if the light stays off for a long time.
   But it's different on different kinds of buses and with different engines and control systems.  Get advice from someone who knows your type of bus and engine.

Up in the left corner in the rear panel is a 6 volt relay check there 1st to be sure the relay is supplying the full 6 volt to the field terminal on the alternator then there is bunch of resistance loops and diodes the little silver wires attached to the relays be sure those are in place.Check the 3 drive belts while they may look good they could be slipping.  

So many Eagle owners buy belts from places like Ace hardware instead of a automotive belt and they just don't work for that application 15 bucks at Ace vs 45 bucks for the good automotive belts I am assuming you have the stock 50D if not forget the above

I did check the relay which I energized then the generator charges. What sends the current to energize the relay? I do have the correct belts all three of them.

It comes from the front panel under the drivers window when the switch is turned on,I'll dig out the schematic and give you a wire number

from what i see wire #71 from the no charge light,runs thru/to a resistor in the front panel to terminal #71 (green) in the front and rear panel, which then jumpers to terminal #91 in the rear panel thru a diode, which then terminal
# 91 splits, to feed the voltage regulator relay, and the skinner valve relay.
#91 red ultimately lands on the voltage regulator +(positive)
field wire is yellow no number from the regulator
grd is black from the regulator

so essentially wire #71 becomes wire #91 at the diode (2A/50v) in the rear panel.

this does not count if your wiring is hacked, or not stock...or i am looking at the wrong diagram for your coach..... ???
