Found a 1953 GMC conversion

I was up in Piedras Negras, Cuahuila and also across the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas preaching over the weekend.

Sunday evening, there was a youth rally down town Piedras Negras. I saw this old GMC bus, and being a died-in-the-wool incurable Busnut, got to chatting with the owner. They have a Gospel music group, and use this bus for traveling all over northern Mexico. I was amazed that he had no idea what engine he had, though it sounded like a 6-71, or perhaps 6-53. I am sure one of you knows. Would this be a 4107? He did not know anything about his bus. It seems mighty long to me: Perhaps 38 feet?

I got to thinking: Here is a real simple, very low-buck conversion, and he is already using and enjoying it. We have been working on ours for over three years, and have yet to hit the road with it. Sure: This one could use a thorough cleaning (beginning with the engine compartment) and some nice mods.

Steve looks like a 4106 35 feet. or 4104 Gm guys may say different.

Definitely a 4104.

May be HUGGYS sister.

She is a 1953 model.

Definitely a PD4104.

Too bad you didn't get the VIN number, we could have traced it's original owner and month of delivery. It could be anywhere from 1953 > 1960. If you have contact info for them, see if they'll share the VIN with you. Should be PD4104-XXXX, the X's representing numbers.

6-71 Detroit with a 4-spd Spicer transmission, if the powertrain's original.

Easy,

4106 wasn't made until '60 or thereabouts.

4106 has quad headlights. Those lower lights in the 4104 bumper are fog lights.

Good looking 04, hmm if there is one running around Mexico... Maybe there are more. If you see them again, could you get the VIN/Serial number. If they aren't sure, open the tool storage located under the driver, outside and look at the frame. The number should be stamped there.

When I see a GM intercity coach, I check out the destination sign, if its small, its an 04.
