Help decoding my engine plate

Here's a picture I found online of the same setup as my engine. Better without all the oil and dirt...

I also noticed my valve covers say "GENERAL MOTORS DIESEL" where most of the motors I've seen say "DETROIT DIESEL" on them.

you have what we call an old style block, has smaller water jackets than new style ( small airbox covers) the old style is not very desirable in high HP applications

That makes sense. So I guess any hope of my engine being replaced in 1988 is evaporating quickly...

Any idea when the "old style" blocks were phased out?
Any idea where the serial number may be located on the older blocks?

Thanks for all the help everyone!! I still have soooo much to learn on these things still. I go out there just about every day and try to follow hoses/lines to learn what things are and what they do. I've only got about 1/2 the systems figured out so far. This bus has more tanks and reservoirs than the last 50 cars I've owned combined. $:-\$

That block was phased out in 1974 they do leak and break liners

come get it Az and I will give you a TA late model 71 I was going to sell it for junk anyway,fwiw you can find the serial in 4 different locations on a 8v71

You have photos of the top of head ? then we can see if you have the antique heads,when they are really old the valves covers have GMC embossed I have a set we removed from Tom's 8v71

General Motors Diesel division of GM was changed to "Detroit Diesel" div. in 1965. In 1970 it was changed again to Detoit Diesel Allison. Now it's just called Detroit and is no longer owned by GM or Roger Penske, but Diamler. The old tin valve covers were stamped General Motors Diesel before the cast alum covers came out. Always wanted to powder coat one and hang it on the wall for posterity.

Boomer I will bring you both when we come one of the stamped GMC and one General Motors Diesel I thought about having the GMC's chromed they have the T looking hold down bolts neat

Cool! Are you actually coming??
I was going to bring my old 671 cover back from Gene's with me but no room to haul it. It had the old T shaped aluminum breather on it. Would have been a nice momento of the fire that we survived.
