This is a new one for me..Direct TV freezes up when I turn on 12 volt lights..AC checks perfect . So does DC... Any ideas???   rdw

Do you have a battery maintainer or AC to DC power converter?  It sounds like it might be causing some interference.  Try unplugging it and running the 12 volt lights from the battery bank.  If that fixes the problem, you could try power line filters and RF shielding the compartment that houses the power converter.

If you are parked and your system has found your satellite turn the 12V power off to the satellite dish. After it finds signal it doesn't need to be powered up.

Hi rdw, many electronics create a radio signal when operating, thats why you were asked if lights were fluorescent,  they create a broad spectrum radio signal that interferes with with tv signals and some radio, lvmci...

Im with digesterman.  Id isolate the 12v to the dish and make sure your box isnt touching anything metal in the bus that might be carrying 12v such as the frame.
