Slower purging from air dryer

For the last year I've noticed that when my AD-9 air dryer purges it no longer makes its brief PSST noise, but now it's making a longer PSSSSSSSSSTTT purge lasting two or three seconds.   Today I cleaned out the purge valve thinking that maybe it was sticking, but its piston was moving freely.   I put it back with new O-rings (the old ones were stretched and distorted), but it still does the same long purge.   The Bendix manual doesn't mention this symptom, so now I'm wondering if the D-2 governor is the culprit?   The compressor still builds air as normal and it cuts in and out at the correct pressures.

Do you think the governor is sticking?   Are they worth rebuilding, or should I just get a new one?   Has anyone else here had this same issue?   It's not a problem yet, but I don't want it to fail on me while driving.

Thanks, John

If the governor is cutting out and in at the correct times it's OK,(that's its job) the dryer is independent of the governor.>>>Dan

The governor hooks to the control port of the air dryer could be a little trash either in the governor or the dryer control port Teflon tape most of the time is the culprit

OK, I'll take a look inside the governor and see what's happening.   I think it's original to the bus, so it's probably time to replace it anyway.

Wow, that's crazy cheap!   I may still deconstruct my old one just for curiosity, but a trip to NAPA is in my future.   Let's hope this speeds up my purgefart.

Thanks, John
