Maybe we can help a little more, with some more information.  Unless I've missed something, Carpenter only built schoolbus bodies, and put them on chassis from major manufacturers (Ford, Chevy, International, etc.).  Other schoolbus manufacturers did try to put out a transit product (I ran Superiors -- what a bad name choice for those POS's), Thomas, Blue Bird did too.  I don't recall Carpenter trying to get into the transit market -- and 84 was when I was actively buying transit buses.

So, what you may have is actually a Carpenter Body, on a Ford, Dodge, Chevy, IH, etc. chassis.  If you do have a bus that was built for a transit system, I'd love to learn more.

Some pictures may help us to give you some more ideas on where to look.  If my guess is right, you'd find more useful information in Chassis/Engine manuals -- the bodies are essentially sheet metal and glass.  And, I've seen Carpenter schoolbuses on a variety of Chassis.

Also, we often request that new members post their rough location, and information on their vehicle (see my signature line below).  A real name also helps with the communication -- a lot easier mentally to say "Bill" than "Micmac 28 1/2"  You never know, one of us might be around the corner from you -- and able to help.  One of the great parts about this board is a general willingness to help -- and we all get to learn something along the way, too.

The Carpenter Transit buses New Orleans had in their fleet I believed were on a Spartan Chassis we rode on a couple best I can remember it was a 30 footer it was a transit not a school bus

Clifford, thanks.  I'd never run into a Carpenter Transit -- so I've learned something.  Hopefully, we'll see some pictures.
