Wondering if anyone has an idea of what this valve does? Guessing it is some sort of a thermostatic valve?

Maybe a pressure regulator valve.

Using your descriptions on the picture it appears to be some type of heat exchanger, but seems very small for such.

That is a manual diverting(diversion) valve some call it a mixing valve it diverts to either of the 2 outlets depending on the temperature, Wirco included those in some of his heating system 15 years ago fwiw then he started selling electric controlled diverting valves for 150 bucks

We had one in the Eagle and replaced it with a heat exchanger to separate the two systems.

Thanks for responses. When I have the Webasto on it heats up the engine
quickly but seems to take forever to get to the heating system.
