Delo 400 40#

Guess there is such a thing as delo400 40 w? napa store called back said thats all they can get,told them as long as it straight 40 i try it.
I should know the the answer to this question but i quit reading about oil on here a couple years ago just to much drama lol

From the Delo 400 datasheet:

Delo 400 monograde oils are not recommended for use
in DDC two-stroke engines.

From the Delo 100 - 40wt datasheet:

Delo 100 Motor Oil is recommended for use in
two-stroke diesel engines requiring highly effective
control of wear and deposits.

Delo 100 Motor Oil utilizes exceptional quality
technology to provide excellent performance in older
engines burning ultra low sulfur diesel fuels

Also from the datasheets:
Delo 100-40wt Sulfated Ash Content = 0.8%
Delo 400 40wt Sulfated Ash Content = 1.5%

Those datasheets are dated July 2013, so they are current.

The Detroit Diesel engine lubricant specs call for less than 1% sulphated ash content in 53,71, & 92 series 2-stroke engines.

NAPA's being lazy, and/or the pimple-faced kid behind the computer can't figure out how to do his job.  Delo 100 is available from ANY Chevron wholesale distributor, in gallon jugs, five gallon pails, or 55 gallon drums.

Do you have an O'Reilly's in town?  If so, walk in and ask them to order 100-40-1 CHV.  If the kid plugs it in and gives you a blank stare, tell him to put the CHV in the vendor code box on his screen, then 100-40-1 in the part number box.  This PN is for the one gallon jug.  Three gallons to a case.  They should be able to get it for you within a couple days at the most.  About $14/gallon or so.

On a side note:

ANYONE who's purchased Delo 100 from a NAPA store - Can you post their part number for this product?  I thought I had it in my notes, but can't seem to find it.

Napa number is 75118.  5 gallon jugs.  Napa web site is horrible.  Delo 100 returns no results.  They don't have Delo 100 in the description.

PS, don't know if it is even Delo,  jug says NAPA.

Matt all you need to do is read the jug the Delo 400 40W is approved for both the DDC /MTU type 1 and 2 engines and are rated CF/SL the 400 15/40 Delo 400 changes the rating to CJ-4 not approved for a 2 stroke they drop 1 engine what the ash in  the 100 something like .87 so they say

I don't why Chevron post the stuff on their web and prints something different on the jug, but ash is not a problem, the series 60 requires a .50 ash max in a CJ-4 rated oil which is 15/40 and the 400 meets that requirement with .50 ash contents which is less than the 1 % for a 2 stroke  

I wouldn't tell you to use the wrong oil hell if something happen to the engine I would probably be the one rebuilding the engine Chevron sells you guys on using the Delo100 those engines ran fine for a long time before Delo 100 came along  

If you want Delo 100 Matt I have 4 gals here just buy 3 gals and you can have these 4 lol I also have some Delo 400 -40W as you know Delo 100 is not my favorite by a long shot

OK, Canceld the order for the delo 400 going to wait till i get somwhere to get the 100, probly wont get it change till i get to nevada or Cliffords anyway.

If you're coming through Cedar City on your way South, we have a Chevron jobber here that keeps many cases (3 Gal) of Delo 100 in stock. Costs a little over $13.00 per Gal. Several of the GM guys come through here every summer either coming or going to ID or Yellowstone. Most all of them stock up for the next year.

NAPA can get Rotella T 40#.   Part number is 550019858 for gallon jugs.   Just purchased 9 gallon.

The way these oil treads end up one would think that Delo 100 is the only oil one can use in a two stroke. How many more times do we have to endure the mystical, magical, Delo 100 sightings/hunts. Someone needs to post and lock a sticky thread at the top listing the Manufactures and their oils that will work in the two stroke. It would put the most repeated question in a predominate reference spot. I am not fussing, it is a legitimate question if you don't know. Just trying to make the world a better place one less Delo question at a time.

I agree Barn Owl Chevron did a good sells job I don't like the stuff you tear a engine down that has nothing but 100 used in it they are nasty and with 5000 miles on the 100 the 2 strokes drink it like cool aid I will stick the Mobil Delvac 1240

OK,i friggen give up just where do i find Mobil delvac 1240,Clifford the only reason i been sticking to the delo 100 is thats what you said was in the bus when i biught it along with a gallon and a half of delo100 in a conpartment

That is all I could get at O-Reilly's at the time sometimes you gotta use what you can buy that engine has had very little Delo 100 or Rotella,remember I told you it would start using oil when the 100 started getting dirty lol  

When I used the Delo 100 I changed it at 5000 miles with the  Delvac I could run for 10,000 to 12,000 miles based on the samples from Cat I'll give you the reports when you stop by

Delvac 1240 is hard to find in some areas I bought mine when we on trips to Texas easy to find there the DD dealers sell it but a price

I have tried to find alternatives to the Delo 100 locally and have had no luck.  I do not think the Delvac is available in CA.  I think I did find Conoco about an hour and a half away or Shell a little closer.  The last time I was buying oil, the search got so frustrating that I was happy to just be able to get the Delo at all.  I will go through the hunt again the next time I need oil but do not expect any better results.  I think that aside from doing a good marketing campaign, Chevron has made it relatively easily available, and that helps them too.

Lin, I bought Delvac 1240 from Western Wholesale in Bloomington CA for years before CA started adding so many fees then it wasn't worth the trouble

Hi All, Matt & all those visiting, you can get Delo 100, 40 in LV again at O'Reilys on spring mt road, Cliff do you know if the napa or detroit diesel is rebranded Mobil/Delvac?, wwwilliams on Loosee rd near Cheyene/I15, has the detroit diesel. Awhile back I couldnt find recomended oils, available in LV and I was getting Union Oil 76 T5X (this is conoco/66), until they changed the formula and the ash level raised over the recomended amount, I sure would like to try the Delvac, does anyone in So Cal know where to get Delvac, is Bloomington in southern cal? Lvmci...
