Well i know we've had this discussion before, but with Diesel at $3/gallon and set to go higher, I really think it deserves another look.

So here's the main question I pose:  Does using waste vegetable oil (WVO) do more damage to an engine than Diesel?

PLEASE I would like to hear from people who have evidence going either way.  Your opinion is fine, but can you back it up with proof?

I'm not even talking about biodiesel, i'm talking WVO, like straight from the fyer at a chinese restaurant.

Can you imagine pulling up to a stip mall, and going into a chinese restaurant and asking the guy if you can siphon off the WVO they have around back?  I bet he'd be happy to le you do it, since he usually has to PAY for its removal!

And YES, it IS possible to use WVO.  The inventor of the diesel engine intended for it to be used with vegetable oil.

For example, check this link out: http://www.greasel.com/One-Shot-Filtering-Unit-Description.htm  and you HAVE to see the news story on WVO on this page: http://tinyurl.com/nmn4q

Here are some more links to the concept:

Don Fairchild

There is a guy by the name of Chris Goodwin on the BNO board. He lives in Seattle wash. he sells a kit to convert the engine over to wvo. You might talk to him and see what he has to say about it

How long do you think it will be before the chinese restaurant wants two bucks a gallon?

Len, whether or not the Resturaunt will want money in the future isn't the question, at this point they have to pay to have it hauled off.
when and if they start charging, then you look for a different alternative.
I think you'll find that for years, the pig farms had to beg for the stuff, then the EPA came along and they had a way to charge for Waste Oil.
Now, it will change again. Oh, well, we'll find something else.
That's part of supply and demand.
Don't be afraid of it, embrace it.

And don't forget wvobus@yahoogroups.com for BUS people using WVO or thinking about it.
FYI, YMMV

In Theory, theory and practice are the same.
In Practice, they aren't.

Make sure you use a very fine filter for filtering the WVO. I just had to drop the fuel tank on a customers MB to clean the sock lthat is over the fuel pickup. Cost him a couple of hundred bucks with the tow in and dropping the tank.
