I have been tearing down accessories and painting my series 60. I'm removing the exhaust manifold and sandblasting then coating with por-15 manifold paint 1800 degrees f supposed to look like natural cast iron. My question is the turbo itself any advantage to cleaning the blades ? I read in the owners manual the blades may be ceramic coated. What could I use to clean the blades eigther normal blades or ceramic coated.  Thanks Ray

Ground walnut or pecan shells. Same as used for gas turbine blades.

Exactly how would probably require disassembly, but since you are rebuilding everything else
do the turbo too and give it new seals and bearings.

Keep in mind that you can't coat the inside of the turbo with anything as it will destroy the clearances.

I wouldn't touch the turbo unless you can actually see the turbo blades are gunked up or have a problem.  As Dave said, you'll need to rebuild if you use anything to clean the wheel as the bearings are likely to get contaminated.

I would leave it alone if nothing is wrong.  Painting the engine is great, but nobody is going to pull the intake off and want to see your turbo blades.

I agree with Brian... turbo's have to be assembled in a clean enviroment. I had my turbo rebuilt a couple of years ago and the tolerances are very fine and the bearing and seal won't tolerate any contamination.

On a side note I saw a 8V92TA on a dyno under full load, and I could see the turbo spinning inside the housing, that how hot the housing became...

Thanks guys, it all makes sense. Ray
