Some years ago, we had a church member who was a driver for the Ómnibus de México bus line. The buses at the time were Dina Olímpico, just like ours. They would leave Mexico City at 11:00 p.m. with two drivers, and arrive in Aguascalientes around 6:30 a.m.  This was before the new toll road between León and Aguascalientes. Each driver would do half the trip.

One night our friend got the second shift, so he slept the first three hours in the front baggage compartment (If you have seen our build thread, you know this is typically converted to a sleeper.) When it was his turn, our friend took off. About an hour later, he sees a baby elephant staring at him. Our friend slaps himself in the face, thinking he was hallucinating -- and plows into the baby elephant, killing it. It turns out that it had escaped from a circus in a nearby town. The elephant had no insurance, of course.

Yikes! I just remembered this was 1981!
