I spent the morning removing the old thermostat's they were 170 * and looked OK .I did a test with the new ones ( same 170* ) and the old ones in a pot on the stove with my laser thermometer . The new ones started to open at 170*,old at 178* . New cooled down first folowed by old on the cutting board off the stove. OK new reacted faster then old but I think the old ones are fine. Motor was rebuilt 2 years ago and I have had a problem running up to temp. some times only 160*.That is y I changed then . The only explanation I can come up with is one was stuck open! After install of new ones I filled with 50/50 antifreeze I ran the motor on fast idle to warm up and check under pressure a OK no leaks. Checked with laser 1st for lovers to open ( right at  145*.good ) then waited for thermostat's to open and they did at 170* .So looks like all is good ,can't wait to go for a long drive to test .Now I am going to mark with my paint pencil date, temp. of therm. on housing as I did not know if there was one or the temp. of therm. after the rebuild. 6v92 ta   life is good       dave

Usually a stuck open thermo will cause overheating, not overcooling.

Strange, but true.
