We purchased a 2001 XLII-45 Royale conversion last fall and after a few hours of drive time we start to notice a diesel smell in the center of the coach. I have been looking around and found an inspection cover on the third bay, passenger side, that opens to expose the fuel tank sending unit. Next to this is a vent that is threaded but just vents into the enclosed bay. Assuming as the fuel warms up with driving this vent is releasing into the bay. Should this not have been vented to the outside of the coach by Royale ? and I assume other converters ? I will attached a drawing of the culprit..

That vent is directional it should only work to let air into the tank when the fuel is being used to keep the tank from collapsing call Prevost and buy a new one 15 bucks a couple of years ago, fwiw that is a PM item change every 2 years came out in a service bulletin is yours a plastic or metal tank

good luck

208 gallon plastic.  I noticed the fuel smell when I removed the cover...looked as much as possible for leaks on hoses all looks OK. and no fuel leaks under coach so I assume as you are saying it needs to be replaced.

Had a diesel smell in middle of coach and mine turned out to be my Aqua Hot fuel pump leaking. Just showed up this summer with fuel dripping out of unit. Smelled it last year but got worse. Just started leaking enough to see. Ironhorse Rv out of San Antone R&R it and no more diesel smell.

I did find this also...had it all apart and fixed the leaks. All for the fasteners that held gasket items were way loose. Thought this was it but some smell remained. I am sure as posted ..it is the vent leaking, it takes about an hour or two of driving now before it smells. Thanks for your responses.

Ditto on the AquaHot fuel pump leaking. Mine has been leaking for quite awhile. I initially found the screws on the cover plate loose. Tightened. Later, leaking again. Replaced o-ring. Still trying to determine if it fixed it or not. Fuel was throughout the bay, and difficult to wash it out due to everything installed in that bay. May have to remove the heater and batteries to get it washed out.
Planning to drill some holes in the floor under the AquaHot to let the fuel drain out next time!
