eng temp ?

Hi guys   my 6v92ta on mci 102c eng temp is between  168 d f  and 180 d f . my air shuters work on a hi temp switch that turns off at 145 f . will it hurt to run at to low of temp. as i think my thurmastat is not working          thanks  dave

depends on how low. Too low of temp and you will be wasting fuel and loss of power. If it's not running warm enough you will not get a complete fuel burn, evidenced by white smoke. I think I saw somewhere that the minimum operating temp was 140?

Minimum operating temp is 170 degrees on a 92 series  fwiw

Just got back from a long weekend of camping in the bus.sorry I forgot to bring my computer . After 1.5 hr drive I used my lazer thermonater, on the left side at water pump temp was 168 f on right side 165 f. outside temp 54 f bus ran great. I have propane injection witch I use for the hills , could that be y temp is low ?         dave

With working shutters you probably don't even have t stats I would install 175 degree t stats with winter coming. JMO

Very rare a guy worrying about a MCI running cool you don't hear of that often lol

 Thanks    I had my DD rebuilt by Leids diesel newville pa  amazing job. I think they removed my thermostats as I had 180 f before I rebuilt .They put a larger pulley on the blower to help spool up the turbo and run cooler  is that a good guess   thanks   dave

I realize that this is changing the subject, but it is about another topic that you mention here-- propane injection.  Would you mind sharing the details of your system?

Lin      I installed a kit last year cost $749.00 no taxs no shipping to florida .plus 2 30 lb tanks ,tray $125.00 .I found the kit on the internet diesel performance products and called Keith .can't find the phone #. My son and I did a simple test with a stop watch and with the system on we drove up a hill from a stop with a set point and a stop point . Each time on the same hill the propane would save 10.5 sec.,14 kph faster plus the trans wood shift into 3rd . 6 diferent times same results.turns on at 13 lb boost adds a small amount of propane to intake . As far as I can tell I get about 6.5 hrs out of the 2 tanks . I think it adds about 13% boost in power on the hills and is the diference to stay in top gear on most hills.           dave

On a run today with my MC 9, 6V92T and outside temps in the 70's, I doubt my temp went above 170. Should I be concerned about that?

Even in the middle of summer, my 6V92T never gets above 200 on the gauge. It seems to run cool. My shutters do not work.

Are we talking about an electric dash gauge?  Do you have a mechanical one at the engine to check it with?  Electrical gauges can be inaccurate.

yes my dash gage is not the same as the hand held laser therm. so after any trip when I stop I check the temp on all wheels , eng.            dave
