Hey Guys,
I recently took a short trip 333 miles round trip. Going and coming, I was running the generator the whole time.
I have a 15KW Kubota, it was very hot out so, I had at least 3-15K Coleman AC's running.
The whole trip was on flat terrain, I have an MC9 with a 6V92. The engine is in good condition, it used hardly any oil.

I averaged 5.6 miles per gallon. I kept my speed between 58 and 65 MPH, because , frankly it wont go much faster.
That seems a little low to me. Am I right ? Or is this about what the mileage should be?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Probably would have been 6.5 without the generator, which is about what you would expect, I think.

that's what I get with my 8v71, but my generator doesn't dip from the same tank.
Some are called, some are sent, some just got up and went.

A 15kw with a Kubota engine under that load will use 1.5 to 2.0 gph of fuel fwiw

Alright then. I guess I'm ok. Good to know. I thought that was low.

Thomas, wow I didn't know the 8V71 was that much of a fuel hog ?

Thanks guys for chiming in !

To think, I am always thinking about an engine transplant. An 8v92, a series 50 or series 60! Anything!
My 6v92 is Gutless! Especially on hills! From what I'm hearing I get pretty good mileage cause my generator pulls from the same tank as the main engine.

I guess I have to get used to life in the slow lane :)

Thanks again guys!

Im only getting 6 with my 8v-92 in a much heavier bus on flat ground here in Florida, no generator, and running average 65.
I always thought that was low but it never changes and I cant change it!

Two years ago i added up everything and came up with this;  31,106 miles traveled, high of 8.24 mpg, low of 5.9 mpg, average overall of 7.39 mpg. This is an 8v71n with an allison 4 sp auto tranny, towing an 87 jeep that weighs about 3800 lbs. and doing almost all of those miles in the western US.  More 2 lane roads than freeways.  :)
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

I ran with the ears pinned back and towing. 8V92 39,000lbs anything over 5 was a gift. Drop to 65 could go over 6mpg. no gen set running. 5 spd Allison 4:88gears. 315 80r 22.5. 100lb air pressure mixed hills and flats.  All Flats could run Close to 7mpg on a good day with ears pinned back. Known distance and filled to neck fresh engine.   Bob

I average 7.82 out of my 892V set up at 445HP. That's pulling a 4600# toad on basically all flat road running 58-60MPH. Our new toad weighs in at 2800# so even if the MPG doesn't go up, I expect it to be a little spunkier. Will :)

When I first got my coach, with 8V92, I was totally empty and got as much as 10 MPG (hwy), but now that I weigh a lot more, I still get about 7.5 on the highway and 3 in the city.

Downhill, both ways !!  (NOT)

Your prob correct: I need to check book again I might have been looking at world trans chart.  It was seated coach gears which I know are lower than entertainer.. On the 98 world trans I think one is 4:88 and entertainer is 4:56 unless my memory has went south again.  It was with stock seated coach Automatic Gears.  Was talking about the 89  8V92. Seville -

As others have said, right in the ballpark.

IBME w/ MC-9s, with both the 8V71 and 6V92 tuned to 275 hp, that they'll average 5.5 - 6.5 overall, regardless of terrain and how heavy your right shoe is.

Do you have any idea what size injectors are in your 6V92?  If it's stock, you're in the 275 hp range.  Changing out the injectors and the turbo can boost the hp easily to 350, which will make a difference you'll notice.  Especially once the new injectors are in and the rack's run properly.

Your coach should run 70 - 75 if it has the 3.70 rear axle, so if all it will do is 65, something's amiss.

we've always gotten about 5.6 the way I drive...hard and fast...up until our recent Florida to Michigan trip this past summer when I lost some power. Coach is gutless now...and consistently getting 7.4. Think I have a fuel delivery issue. 6v92Turbo weighs almost exactly 30,000 pounds...running 110 PSI tire pressure and pulling a camry toad.
