When I bought my genset the seller showed me a tickler wire which needed to be connected to the + on the battery in order to start the genset.

I'm finally getting around to playing with the genset and I'm wiring a remote panel though it's for a diesel generator. I can start and stop the generator by remote but of course only as long as the tickler wire is connected. What is this wire? Is it some sort of coil wire?
My main question is can it be left connected all the time to the battery or will it burn something out on the generator?
Also, there is a second wire where the mystery wire comes out and I can't seem to figure out what it's for and the seller didn't know. This means that I have battery pos and neg wires and two smaller gauge wires, one of which is the one that needs connection to positive to run. Then there is also a harness with something like 5 wires that go to the remote.  Ideas on the mystery wires??

could they be to a fuel pump? can you get into the panel on the genny and find out where they go?
Some are called, some are sent, some just got up and went.
